Folks,

I have seen the threads re the seat not unlocking, and the little fix with the wire to use instead of the key.

My issue, is that I have just finished my spring clean ready for the summer, and the last job is of course to put the seats back on.

Problem is, I can't get the bloody thing to lock back in.

I have tried sitting on it and turning the key....hitting it, being gentle....gave up after 20 minutes due to feeling like something was gonna be thrown a very long way!

So, question is. Why is it doing this...and is there a way of sorting it?

Cheers in advance

Try putting the height adjusters on high front and back, or both on low...then front end in first , then lean on the rear edge in the middle to lock it down

( for some reason mine is more awkward if the height adjusters are not in the same position front and back) :thumb2

It'll be the bmw tools sticking up stoping it only needs a reposition it should go on fine.

Well, I have tried it with no tools in. Tool holder out completely....seat on high, low, mixed and the bloody thing won't clip over the metal bar and secure the seat.

This can't be right. Either I'm a real plonker and doing something wrong, or it needs something adjusting.

As a further issue, I received a polishing kit for my drill to buff up the down pipes today. Not really anal about it being really clean, gets one good going over in spring then a quick wash throughout the year.....but the 4 pads and different compounds have made the job much easier.....or so I thought.

Went to remove the crash bars....all well until the last star bolt at the top crumbled away as soon as I went to undo it. Previous owner must have ballsed up the head when fitting. Can't get the thing out, so it's either drill it, or just buff up the pipes best I can with the crash bars in the way.

Why are things never simple and straightforward.

Cheers Jim.

Well, just gone to the garage to have another go. A more reasoned, thoughtful approach led to the conclusion that the clips just wouldn't hook over. Even if I just used the bar without the seat.
So a quick grind with the Dremel on the metal hooks and hey presto...clips in no problem. No laying across the seat, jumping up and down...perfect.

And relax!. Just the torx bolt holding the crash bar in to rectify now.

The LHS adventure crash bar fills with water and rots that fixing screw. Mine was black with threads entirely rotted away.
Solution - drill out the bolt head. Use lots of anti seize grease on the new bolt.
But first see if the correct size Torx bit will hammer into the bolt head.
Chrome pipes will always blue stain until the chrome gets polished off. Stainless tarnishes and gets ever more hard to polish.
