Another starter problem

Hi im having problems with the starter on my new 04 gsa on pushing the starter button there is just a clack sound after several pushes of the button she starts fine, also if you tap the body of the starter with a rubber mallet the starter motor works fine is it worth stripping the starter motor or should I try and get a new one?
It is a relitively new mitsubishi unit thats about 2 years old but not seen much use.

I've rebuilt my original one but did replace with a cheap unit off ebay (sourced from Germany). The rebuild didnt take long and I could have easily avoided buying the new one but am happy to have a working spare on the shelf.

So I got in tonight and removed the starter its totaly different to the one in the sticky but I pulled it apart anyway its internals look fairly good
cleaned up the gear components with wd put it all back together
first stab of the button great it worked fine so I put the cover back on
and smugly tried to start it again clunk it didnt start third go it started
