Scumbags. I doubt you'll see it again despite your best efforts to secure it.

Plod are hardly a deterrent against vehicle crime these days it seems, probably busy putting their limited resources into some politically correct scheme elsewhere under the direction of the top brass.

Sorry to hear this. Who buys stolen BMW bikes? Who are they selling this onto? I always thought BMWs were not a big target of thieves because they can't shift it on. Obviously I'm wrong.

Amazing they got it with all the security you had on the bike. Only thing missing was a tracker and maybe a DNA kit.

I'd wager they were from way East of these shores. Call me a racist but the number of Eastern European crims who now ply their trade here isn't even funny.

Mr Bloom of Ukip would have known what to do with them. How about a limb removed for each bike stolen. Seems about fair to me.

People who buy parts from eBay, because they don't want to pay rip off stealer prices, is who, mate. Independent, salt of the earth (know what they are doing, trust them with my life) independent service agents.... Oh, and swarthy blokes from the Ukraine. That's who.

Are you 'avin a laugh, mate? It wasn't chained to anything, other than itself. They lifted it into a van and had it away. I will steal you a 1200 GSA to order tomorrow. It's parked everyday on the corner of Crutched Friars, London EC3. You'd have to be really blind (and nearly as stupid as the owner) to miss it.

There's the rub. When I worked in the smoke I'd see the same bikes in the same bike bays day after day no matter which clients site I was at, most with no security. It's just so easy for the bike thieves to take a particular model.

No doubt it's the same scenario in other cities and towns, we are creatures of habit after all.

Here's an idea, why don't we just steal parts we need from each other's bikes and cut out the middle man? :rolleyes

Sorry to read this

What sort of punishment would discourage those buying the stolen parts, what sort of punishment would discourage the traders supplying the market ?

E-Bike by any chance? Jackie went through the same with when her 690 Enduro was stolen, then lost the keys that were sent to them with all the documents. They were one of the most incompetent companies I have dealt with, but made a fair payout in the end.

Had a pal moaning about the key issue. Couldnt find the second set. Insce company wouldn't pay out. Dont blame them - his very nice but slightly scatty wife had left the keys in the car! Hardly looking after it properly.

Lots of otherwise honest people think the insurance company is fair game, inflate claims, make false claims, claim for things not covered. You may not be doing so but they have to check.

It had a chain through it's self and a fecking tree sorry did not say!!! also the only time not chained up is when i get fuel, had a chat with a guy from Jap/german bikes and he said they use grab lorries guys in hi-vis vest pertol saws, pick bike up and drop onto lorry and the bike will not be more than a mile away up some side street to see if it has a tracker on it.

insurance man was here for 2 hours, asking all sorts of questions all docs in place, keys, he past comment that insurance will try and get out of paying out if any discrepenses found!!!!!!

bike bays should have bolt anchors for bikes FFS as insurance loss adjuster said 12 bikes a day are stolen in london alone!!!

I read an article a while ago where a bike mag got some ex-cons to show how easy it was to steal a bike. It made truly shocking reading. For chains and padlocks, they just poured liquid nitrogen over the lock whilst on the floor, then shattered it with a hammer. Don't let your lock reach the floor!

Bike thieves might not be that smart, but they know how to make easy money and are surprisingly resourceful.

I knew someone who had a twin axle caravan stolen from behind a fence and hedge. They turned up with a flat bed & Hiab crane and simply lifted it over the fence. They even told the neighbours they were collecting it for an annual service.

The insurance played up because it didn't have a wheel clamp. But it actually had four winter wheels locked to the axles.

With all that, what chance does a bike have? Even one locked to a tree isn't going to be there for long. I would like to say fit a tracker but after my experience would now simply lock it as best as possible and leave it to the insurance.

The landlord of several large office blocks here in the City put in ground anchors for bods to use. Nobody used them. Same with anchors put in by the council in bike bays.

If bods cannot be bothered to carry something as simple as a disk lock, it follows that they ain't never gonna carry a chain and padlock.

Indeed it has.

I often go for a wander about at weekends, just to see what there is to see.
