If you trip over an unsecure GSA, I'll bring the Van
You're on.
But if a disc lock isn't going to make a difference, why bother locking it up at all?
I confess that I go to London pretty regularly and don't bother with anything more than the steering lock. A decent chain and lock is a bunch of money and of no more use than a disc lock if you can't attach it to something secure... Which is pretty hard to find when parking a GSA in London...
I'm working on the assumption that security beyond not leaving the key in the ignition is not going to change the insurance situation...

Hey Agent, is this the bike that has replaced a previous stolen bike and you've just had enormous trouble insuring?
Regardless if it is or isn't I feel your pain. Good luck finding it, and insuring the next one!!!

Its hard to find a policy today that wont specify a security system of some sort. No lock = no bike and no insurance payment.
As we must know by now a disc lock will stop the opportunist chav and slightly slow down a properly tooled up professional. OK for a few minutes to get a paper and fags. A decent chain locked to a lamp post will hinder the pro enough to move along. But as parking on the pavements isn't legal we go back to the original point.

That's shit luck mate, from what I've read it is Eastern Europeans who are doing this. The bike will no doubt be broken for spares, mostly sold on eBay. It's easy to say. Don't buy off eBay but it's cheaper so people will!

From what I've read it is Peruvians; or was it Polynesians or gangs from Penzance and Preston? It's so easy to muddle them up.
PS He didn't need luck with his insurer. By his own admission, he received a very satisfactory payout. It's the renewal he struggled with. But that was some way in the future, this being an old thread that his risen, Lazarus like, from the grave to confuse the innocent.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if your premium increases substantially when you get around to replacing your bike.
In fact i'd get one step ahead of the game and start getting quotes now so as not to get caught out.
I was told it's gangs of monosodium glutamates causing all the grief.

I feel your pain - I had my brand new (11 days old) 800 GSA stolen from Angel at the end of October - only just got the payout now. Not looking forward to sorting out insurance again next year now!

I wonder if there is any way to make a bike secure I remember shipboard what a big pair of bolt croppers would cut through I watched and was amazed. So all this thatcham stuff is just grist to the mill for these hoods.Short of some 20 mm ground chain used for mooring boats which would be impractical weight wise what can we do? I wonder what a steel cable with eye thimbles would be like. We had to cut some ss wire strops with croppers and that took some doing, there again weight. I've got it we all use sh**ty little old bikes ...well perhaps not.
