On Friday my GSA 30 was in Southport Superbikes for its 24k service and some warranty work. I was there all day so a friend (Marty) and I took the new LC out for a run up to Kendal. A decent route with a good mix of roads.
Once shown all the controls, I fired it up, first thing I noticed what a rattle from the motor, I expected it to be quieter with it being LC, but I suppose its not a full water jacket.
The bike was in Rain Mode as I dropped it into first, “clunk” and I was off , mirrors different, I liked them and found clear at all speeds, The gearbox is only noisy on selecting first gear the rest of the time it was perfect, better than the out going TC. Seat position was very good for me and I found the screen amazing both in operation and protection. I am used to the barn door of the GSA’s so was well impressed.
The throttle is lovely and light and about the same turn as my quick action throttle on my TC. Only criticism was in Dynamic mode, I found it surging a little as if it was over fuelling. The clutch is really light, only criticism from the bars for me, would be to take a little off the weights and bring everything in a little, I would also fit a cross bar, but remember this is just my personal view, we are all different, its nothing wrong from the bike.
As we got near Preston and the roads dried out I decided to try the Dynamic setting , Oh my god what a machine, I had my own treated to a tune over a year ago at Hilltop Motorcycles and it pulls like a train in every gear . I am well aware of all the doubters here, but the tune was the best money I have ever spent on a bike. That said, the new LC would annihilate mine, pulling from any gear it would pull to a indicated 145mph obviously on a private road..
As we pulled up for some lights, Marty shouted over “what do you think?” My answer was “the engine is awesome the handling is better.” and it is, the handling is sublime it was only a few weeks here I posted a thread on the article in bike mag. I am not saying they cant have had tanks slappers on test, we have all seen the photographic evidence from the aftermath, but if it was the bike, they have certainly sorted it. The demo bike I was on, was shod with Tourance Next and they were impressive wet crappy roads out of Southport , dry further north. I remember on the A6 hitting a pot hole coming round a bend at a good rate of knots, it never moved, absolutely solid.
At Forton services we swapped over, I rode Marty’s bike a 04 gs, what a come down,(sorry Marty) but he obviously enjoyed it, because that was the last I saw of him until Crooklands. His comments were same, looks wise they have made it very modern but still kept that GS look. I jumped back on it in Milnthorpe and headed back to Southport, we had set off with a full tank and as I pulled in for fuel just near the dealer, the gauge showed 1 mile left, it had averaged 30.9mpg!! Over 133 miles, In its defence we had ridden it very hard.
I had intended to wait for the GSA, but I am very tempted to have one for a year, it is that good. I
handed the keys back to the salesman and shook his hand, I said they don’t need you anymore, these will sell themselves.

I had a test ride from Southport Superbikes booked for today.
What can I say??
WONDERFUL
NOT
WORST TIME EVER !!!!!!

Why?
Spotted a screw in the back tyre right on the edge of the tread as I walked past it to collect the key :blast

Maybe another day? :rob

The bike was in Rain Mode as I dropped it into first, “clunk” and I was off - I found it surging a little as if it was over fueling.
Did you notice it surge at all in the Dynamic setting?

I only noticed it surging in dynamic, it was fine in rain mode, I never tried road.
It was not bad, and Marty never noticed it at all. It would not put me off buying one

Surging

You're kidding, right

Hate to say it but mine does. When set it in dynamic mode, trying to hold a constant speed is difficult. I push a finger in to the brake leaver and its better. Flick on the cruse and roll the throttle forward and it's as smooth as a galaxy bar. I think it's just down to how sensitive the EGas system is.

I'm using mainly road mode. Dynamic is for a warm summers day on a twisty B road ....

My basic model has no surging at all - must be the fancy software modes that arent quite sorted yet - software update???????

That's a relief :beerjug: I too will go for the basic model so if this only happens with the bling version it's ok - although I thought surging was put to bed with the twin spark 1150 :nenau

no matter what mode their in they all hit peak power, i also thought the engine noise was more that i would have expected, by no means a bad thing:D

The new GS is quieter than the twin cam, something to do with EU :blagblah hence why I've ordered an Akro:comfort

My bike surges on constant throttle like my Multistrada did which Ducati remapped to cure by throwing more fuel down its throat.

The GS needs a remap but it already is fuel greedy because in part it supports throttle happy riding........at the mo I only get 170 to fuel light.

However it could be the e-gas control panel out of sync with the ecu throttle body control? Either way it needs fixing as this is the market leading bike and needs to......market lead.

Surging is no big problem but is a Pita when on long touring days.

Does it surge in all modes or only Dynamic ?

Mine is currently averaging 53mpg and over 200 miles to the tank, I am keeping it 5,000 rpm max as I am running it in according to the book.

Maybe all these fancy software controlled modes are not quite perfected yet BUT all it is is software (firmware) so my guess is that there will be updates (that will be done when the bike is serviced) as more experience is gained.

its not the exhaust note or noise, i think thats a great sound, your akra should enhance that even more, its the mechanical noise of the motor which is loud which i seem to like

See my note above. Mine only does it in dynamic mode. It's either a very sensative thottle or, poor wrist action on my part!

Like the engineer says - its just a firmware thing and no big deal

As long as enough of us report it BM will do something.

I don't think it needs more fuel as on cruse, it's smooth.

Are you sure you want to own up to that? You'll have the Honda Hillbillies after you before long! :ronno

The book says 5,000 rpm max during running in so that's what I am doing - i don't care what others say, I have always run the bike in by the book and my previous two 1200s have used hardly any oils - there are loads of daft theories out there about running in but I ignore them.

P.S. who are the Honda Hillbillies any way????
