if you get the pannier fittings pre fitted by touratech, do they make a good job of it?

ie. are the mounts nice & snug in the corners of the frame?

do the boxes sit level when mounted?

any other problems?

getting them to fit exactly is pretty dificcult IMO, i'm sure they use a template but am equally sure they could screw it up.

i have a secondary question for owners who are lucky enough to own an 1150GS & a 100GS who fit their zega's to both bikes. i'm thinking Judge here :)
do they sit nicely on both bikes or are they angled for one & therefore sit wrong on the other?

both questions refer to std. 35/41L zega's not street version or the (even more) absurdly expensive, but very attractive, close fitting boxes with cut outs.

Mine were fitted by Touratech in france. Yvon did a good job I would say. They are symetrical and identical each side - they aren´t level though. Only problem is being quite forward tilted is that I grind the leading corners every now and again. Not a problem and it´ll stop eventually.

They´ll look nice on you bike cookie, some nice gold handles and a few sheets of Burberry Fablon. :D

Zega Mounting

If you buy the self mounting one's you get a template to help you with the holes. There are some usefull tips on the USA Tourtech site.

Mine were factory prepped and are fine.

Yep

Yep but see my caveat below in relation to both bikes.

For a ham fister like myself yes, but with your nouse and fully equipped workshop you could probably improve it, especially in relation to the two bikes issue.

The alignment to the bike is largely controlled by the Touratech framework. On the 1150 it means a forward tilt to line up with the lines of the bike. This can mean a risk to grinding the front outer corner of the pannier. Although in theory this should only happen once or twice until you get used to the limits of lean, its no 'trophy' to knacker your boxes

The only adjustment you will need to make if you decide for factory fitting the upper rear mounting lug needs to face out to the rear of the bike (left hand pannier @ 9 0' Clock position & right hand pannier at 3 O' clock position instead of 12 O'clock as they would be if bought pre-drilled for the 100.

If you bought pre-drilled for the 1150 this should be the case anyway. And other than whacking some Silicon into the back of the lug when I changed it I've had to do nothing else.

If I were you Cooks I'd by the self mount kit and with the money saved buy the integral lock kit, the padlocks are a fookin pain as I found when I borrowed Grizz's panniers for Ireland.

Lastly a couple of piccies of the identical panniers mounted on the respective mounts.

you can really touch them down on an adventure?

bit worrying, my std. GS is 25mm or so lower.

i've never touched cases down on my PD with 2 x 41L zegas.

You'll have to take my word for it they are identical boxes - the time between Princetown 2003 and Picos 2004 I've added and removed stickers :D

There not identical then are they, bloody show off:D
