Hi

I have PR2s back & front. My front tyre is 50p shape, the back is not too bad.

I have been recommended a PR4

Does anybody have any experience of these?

Thanks

Davy C

Davy .. I have recently come over from a Kawasaki Gtr 1400 fitted with Pilot Road 3's .. and they were simply fantastic, in all conditions and weather. Some of the guys are now fitting the 4's and I wouldn't expect much difference but everyone rants about them .. get a pair and try for yourself. Truly 10/10 in my book.:thumb2

I plumped for PR 3's as they are a known quantity. I thought I'd leave it till the next set I need as I had Bridgestone 021's on which are really shit tyres. I always put Bridgestone 020's on my precious bike and they were good, in fact miles ahead of the 021's which were a newer designed tyre.

generic thread here where PR4 is discussed in relation to a number of bikes - I have a rear PR4 on my Super Tenere, paired with a part worn PR3 on the front. I like them and I would imagine they will be fine on an RT.

have pr4s front and rear (trail) and before anyone says a gt would have been better on the back, its all a compromise. happy up to now and that's what counts.

I am riding a 2008 GSA and went from Battlewings to Tourance followed by Dunlop TR91's (which were the best of the three by far). Needed new tyres and had a serious think about how I had been riding for the past five years and to be honest all on road with the very occasional dry hard trail. Fitted PR4 Trails last week and really impressed with them. Very planted all surfaces and the bike rides much smoother. I did consider the Anakee 3 but am glad I have gone for the PR4. Think hard about what type of riding you do really. Did consider the GT version for my GSA rear but I never take a pillion or too heavy luggage even when touring though the GT version is the only one which has the 2AT technology and would have been my choice for a GSA rear if I did. Here is a reply to my query about this from Michelin;

"In the past we and other manufacturers have produced 'B' fitments or 'XL' type marking's to signify the increased carrying capacity or focus on GT bike fitments. With the Pilot Road 4 we decided to use this new technology to ensure that you got the same rider enjoyment on these larger/heavier bikes as you would on a bike not requiring this fitment.

Hence the answer is that 2AT technology is only in the GT rear, but it is only needed in the GT rear to give the best handling characteristics possible on the larger/heavier bikes that require this tyre.

There is no benefit to fitting this tyre if it is not a recommended fit for your bike.

Safe riding, Sam

Sorry I realise this is an RT not GS/GSA thread but wanted to give my opinion on the PR4, def the GT version for the RT.

I will have to show the wife this as proof that I can make the right choice every now and then---- pr4 trail

In my opinion, tyre-experiences from other bikes are not guaranteed to apply to the RT as well. The Telelever is great but tends to push the wheel slightly "forward" rather than in-/backward as telescopic forks when hitting bumps. As a result, stiffer tyres like Bridgstone can feel really harsh when crossing sharp ramps and ridges. I love the 023 on the Honda Pan and VFR1200 but wouldn't recommend them for the RT. I'd stick with Metzeler / Pirelli, I am tempted to try the latest Avon Storm 3D (made in the UK and all that ;)).

I would have no hesitation in recommending PR4 GTs for the RT.

A super tyre. Totally planted on a wet road.
