Antenna ring replacement?

I spoke to BMW this morning about the antenna ring failure issue... They told me that my bike (06 model) should have been replaced already under a 'replacement scheme' that has been running for a while. Was there a 'recall', but they didn't call it a recall?
Is this correct info?
 
Not a recall to my knowledge, but a swap. Usually done during your regular maintenance sessions at your dealer. Ask your dealer for a check into his online system to see if your antenna needs replacement. My 2008GSA ews ring antenna is also being swapped today.
 
Thanks, I plan to ask for a print out of all the 'swap/recalls' when I go to the dealer.... I think BMW use the term 'Customer Service Iniatives'.......
 
Something like that. I just went up to my dealer and the printout I got had everything stated:

1.Software update: done (March 2008)
2.EWS antenna: still open
3.Brake line replacement: still open

Nothing gave me any issues before any update, swap, recall or customer initiative. What I did notice was a more accurate fuel gauge and a more eagerly running engine after the software update. The EWS never failed me as the brakes.

Finally I have reached the milestone of 10k km's, so I brought the Majestic in for service last Saturday for a Full Monty, including swapping the horn for a Stebel Magnum.

!s #1 the pinking issue at 4k revs, and a new software map sorts out the prob?
But, what is #3 about?

Coopers have told me that there was no recall for the antenna ring fault on the 06 1200gs.... I wonder if this is semantics? has the 06 been known to have this failure??
 
There may have been a campaign to replace them. Try searching on antenna in this area (1200 GS) for an appreciation on the number of problems.
 
I have spent many pleasant hours reading here trying to understand the problems of the 12s....
What I can't get to the bottom of is whether all 12s have the fpc and antenna problem or not!! Also, if there was a campaign for all 12s for the antenna, why mine has not been replaced?
 
Pre a certain build date the 1200 didn't have an imobiliser but did / does have the FPC. My 54 reg 1200GS didn't have an imobiliser and therefore didn't have the dreaded antenna.

If you have a fat chunky key, then it's likely you have an antenna, and if it becomes unhappy, the dreaded EWS will show on the RID prior to you hoping to start the engine.

My bike does have 'EWS' and the shape of an engine on the display as it i going thru its checks... I have an April 06 bike.
 
My May 06 GS 1200 was supposed be changed under the recall / campaign for the ring antenna, but on the day i arrived last year, they checked again and informed me that it was to old for the range of chassis numbers. ( The list was Revised by BMW at some point)

I think from memory, they said it only effected very late 06 bikes up to about mid 08 bikes.
 
ALL R1200GS' have a ring antenna. It reads the key chip and the ECU will allow the engine to start if the key is registered. The latest part number ends in 247.

ALL R1200 GS' have a FPC - the latest is black in colour.
