Hi.
Just wondering if anyone knows when we can expect to see these in the showrooms?

Thanks.

Williams in Manchester today said they are expecting the first one in next week . They said each dealership is only getting 7 and they have already sold 4 . Wire wheels will likely not be available until next year !

Didn't they 'promise' wire wheels for October (November?) ?

Had a phone call from my dealer yesterday. Official UK launch date is 30 May so dealers should have a bike by then. He wasn't sure if customer orders would be delivered at the same time.

The WW must be on the slow boat from India.
I was at a Motorrad Dealer last week when I was told that the bikes arrive in Southampton from India are then sent to Crick for PDI, then shipped to Germany, before being brought back to the UK and delivered to the Dealer network :duno

If that’s true it must mean that BMW think this sector of the market is going to become a very important percentage of their future sales. Maybe it’s their way of making absolutely sure that during this first release phase nothing at all can slip through to spoil the party and future image of this model?

Maybe the comments about beta testers on past new model releases are making them more cautious, but I can’t see this convoluted delivery route making much sense as a long term business model.

Just had a circular newsletter from Sycamore Witham (Essex) stating model launch Sat 30th May same as @bdastu update…

Watching some reviews and I'm not sure about the motor, seems a bit of a lady toy on the vibrating levels, and the wire wheels apparently only come on the top spec model with the auto.

The wire wheels don't come with the Trophy version. They are listed as an accessory, which you will need to buy for around £1,200

I have been seriously thinking about changing my CRF300 Rally for the F450 GS. But after a bit of researching, I am having second thoughts.
1. The Trophy model they have shown in nearly all the press releases has had the wire wheels, Akrapovic exhaust and Rally seat and crash bars. These are extras that you have to buy separately from the bike adding around £2.5k to the price.
2. You can only get the Trophy with the Easy Ride Clutch. It may be a useful thing, but you won't be able to park on a hill without the bike rolling as the clutch doesn't engage until around 2.5k rpm. There doesn't seem to be any manual hand brake for these situations either.
3. A 3 year service plan costs around £1200. And I assume single services will cost more.
It will be interesting to see how the dealers respond to these issues, as they have definitely put me off buying one for now.

A couple of decades ago BMW were the main culprits for the number of add ons that they expected you to choose to bring it up to the spec the bikes should have left the factory with.
It seems to be a business model more companies are adopting nowadays.

A few years ago I visited a showroom with the view to buy an RT. Working to a budget I didn’t want to go much above the price of a basic model. Salesman did everything to convince me I needed all the options adding up to several thousand pounds.
On declining these options I was told a basic bike would take 6months+ but if I went for the all in choice I could have it direct from the factory in less than three weeks. I walked away.

The early teasers from BMW peaked my interest in the 450 but having added up the costs on their configurator it’s soon clear that they aren’t seriously looking to be competitive against the other options in that class.
Shame really, but I’m sure their opposition, especially the Chinese will capitalise on the opportunity to fill the void.

Let's hope the Germans, at least, read the verdict in Motorrad magazine, which is:-

"It's the most expensive in the class, but also the best ....so still value for money"

Don't argue with me, I'm a road-only rider and don't understand such machines.

No arguments, but………..mmmmmm Motorrad magazine, independent no bias review 🤔

Wrong!!! They placed the BMW 900R in third (last) place against 2 others in the same issue.

Look for yourself if you don't believe me.
Oh!!! I didn’t read the magazine - just commented on the quote you posted relating to the F450gs as per this thread.

I’m sure they have lots of different views on bikes in other classes as you have pointed out to validate their honesty.

I shall now go flog myself with a birch for doubting their unbiased and impartial assessment of its merits.
After all, everybody else has also rushed to declare it best in class and value for the money?

For the record I actually like what I’ve seen so far, but best in class and good value?
That’s a very bold claim at this stage.

Red and black are without the 'Easy RideClutch'

The brand new BMW F 450 GS has arrived and we can't wait to show it to you in person. It's in the showroom now.

Official launch is Saturday 30th May with test rides available from this date.

This is the most exciting small capacity GS in years. BMW has built it around a newly developed inline twin engine with 47.5 BHP — agile and responsive whether you're on tarmac or heading off it.

The lightweight chassis makes it more nimble than anything in the GS range before it, and a full TFT colour display, three riding modes including Enduro, and ABS Pro with DTC mean the technology is right up there too.

The standout feature?

The Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), available on the Trophy variant, which takes the stress out of tricky starts and reduces stalling in demanding conditions. Whether you're a seasoned adventure rider or newer to off-road, it's the kind of thing you'll appreciate immediately.

Four variants — Base, Exclusive, Sport and Trophy — mean there's a spec to match every riding style and budget.

The F 450 GS is in our showroom right now. Come in, sit on it, ask questions — that's what we're here for.
