Any idea how to slow my DVD drive down - it's too noisy

I've just finished building a nice new media centre PC. It's all gone very well except for the DVD drive - it's far too noisy as it plays back DVD's.

I seem to remember a software utility that limited the DVD drive speed but I'm blowed if I can find it. Anyone know of something I could use to slow my DVD down? Cheers, Geoff

there is, but i can't remember what it's called either. sorry.

put some buttered bread in it first - butter side down obviously - then when u put the dvd in the butter grips the dvd and slows it down to an acceptably quiet speed.

allegedly

...reminds me of Tomorrows World, when they smeared jam on a CD. Classic stuff :D

Geoff...try adding some rubber washer type damping to the mountings of the drive.....chances are the noise is harmonic vibration set up by the spin speed- isolate the drive on the chassis and it may well be a lot quieter ;)

found it now.

anydvd has it in the options.

i knew i'd seen it somewhere, just didn't realise i already have it installed
