State-of-the-art principles for maximum safety.
The Neck Brace System is a lightweight construction made of carbon, Kevlar and fibre-glass reinforced plastic, partly covered in a soft, impact-absorbing and skin-friendly foam layer. It is placed around the neck like a collar. Two fasteners at the sides enable easy handling. The Neck Brace System does not create a static connection between the helmet and shoulders but simply rests on the upper body. Its effect is felt when the wearer moves his or her head forwards, backwards or to either side: the freedom of movement normally required is maintained; however, over-stretching of the head in the given direction (hyperflexion, hypertension, lateral hyperflexion) is significantly limited. Injuries resulting from compression to the spine due to force applied to the helmet (axial loading) can be reduced due to the support provided at the bottom edge of the helmet by the neck protection device. This represents a major step forward in terms of passive safety, both in sports and everyday road traffic.

KTM factory riders used them in 2007 Dakar, they proved to be effective (the whole Repsol team crashed, Viladoms in a very bad way but none were killed or disabled this time), some say they costed 1000 EURos each... a bit steep, ...don't you think?
