Whould a pair of Hall sensors be worth buying as spares , just the sensors plus rivets . Any thoughts please ????

I replaced mine last year - the sensors are Honeywell 2AV54 and cost around 12 quid each. Fairly straight forwards DIY. We got ours from Farnell's in USA as there weren't any in uk. I joined in with someone else's order to spread the cost of postage. Saved about 150 pounds on the job on parts alone.

This maybe of use, a write-up on replacing the sensors.

If I was changing sensors now thou, I think I'd do a complete rewire with heat resistant wire as the wiringing just as likley to fail a the sensor.

Hall sensor

Is it possible to buy just the mounting plates from BMW and then fix the Farnell hall sensors to them and carry the complete assembly as spares thus making it a plug and play fix ?

I would say this is a no chance, but I did carry a spare sensor assembly on the bike till it finally went...

Perhaps the handiest thing to do then is to look for the entire assembly from a breakers yard and replace the actual sensor with the Farnell one. Incidentally are the left and right side assemblies the same ?

Ask in the FS& W section and I'd bet you'll find someone with a knackered HES lying in an old parts bin......most people just order a new/second hand one so there are loads sitting around :beerjug:

I have looked into buying from States and more you buy cheaper they become . Would there enough intrest in getting 20 or more , if interested leave a note . Thankyou 2 sensors are needed per order .

may be worth offering it to the airhead section too as the later R's (81 0n?) have the same sensor. Also used on the K series.

The above link may be of interest to you, if you look at their history you will see that they have sold a complete replacement hall sensor set for as low as £18. The crippler is the shipping charge. But with a group buy and perhaps some assistance from one of our Greek GSers in respect of an alternative means of posting to the UK, it may be possible to buy at a good price. Just a suggestion, I don't need one myself.:D
