Any one got a Laminar lip screen?

About a week ago there was a thread titled "What is the buffeting?". You can find it at http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35728 Several posters mentioned that they have Laminar Lip screens.
They are not really adjustable. With some effort you can remove them and set them to a higher or lower position, provided you've installed the necessary sticky dots. Not something I would recommend doing on a regular basis, unless it's regularly twice a year.
You can also install them with nylon bolts, but that requires drilling holes in your original screen. That might make it easier to adjust, although I can't see muich point in adjusting it.

, I posted a couple of times on that thread myself & the only person who actually had one there was you! I`ve actually ordered a lip & was wondering if they needed adjusted to find the best position or just fixed to the screen & thats that.

There's no need for adjustment to find the best location. It probably doesn't matter much whether the lip is located low or high. I set mine at a height where I can comfortably look over the top of it with the screen in its highest position. About 2" above the top edge of the original screen.
The only thing you need to watch out for is that the two screens do not touch. Mine just touch on one side at the top edge where the original screen makes a sharp turn, and it's leaving a mark on the lip.
Be careful when installing the 'dots'. It's impossible to move them once they are in place. I held the lip in place, and then used a marker pen on the inside of the screen where the dots were to be placed. It was then easy to locate them correctly on the outside of the screen. This was done indoors with the screen removed from the bike to maintain it at the required temperature for the dot adhesive to stick.

From the www.laminarlip.com web site it seems Australia is the only country outside the USA with a distributor. Mine was ordered direct, and arrived promptly, with no problems. Except that the nuts for the nylon bolts were missing. I don't need the bolts so it didn't really matter.

I ordered mine from the US & it took 5 days to get here, yesterday, but I`ve yet to fit it. It looks a lot better IMO than it does on their website pic & appears to be a quality product The great exchange rate helps too 
I`ll have it fitted in the next few days or so as the 1 million tons of salt the council has deposited on the roads round here is keeping the bike firmly in the garage less it falls to bits

Bet it cost you a lot less than the yanks US$75 plus shipping and duty too!
I have seen something very similar on racing cars. As the shaped gap acts as a diffuser presumably it does the Bernoulli thing of transforming the flow of air into pressure and so creating a still air zone. And no doubt the higher screen lip raises the buffet zone somewhat.
The car versions I recall were not as high as those on the US website, and by all accounts worked well so long as the angle of divergence away from the screen was under 10 degrees.
I would like to experiment, can you tell more about your version and I will post my results.

Just ordered my Lip, from US website - I'll report back when I've tried it.
Total cost inc. shipping $106.75 (+ Customs/VAT?). May look a basic simple piece of plastic, but if it does the job IMHO it's money well spent. And it's gotta look better than that Touratech one!

My photo is a bit large but you'll see it down there.
You're exactly right about the airflow and pressure change.
Effectively . you accelerate the air, at the same time condition and straighten it between the screen and lip.
As you accelelerate the air, the pressure drops as the speed increases - think inside a carburettor - this 'sucks' turbulent air into its 'stream' and removes it- similar to the 'coanda' effect.
To increase this effect a scoop or upturned lip at the front base of the lip would help funnel air in.
PS - 3 years at Farnborough college in the wind tunnel helps the theory
...... and the pic was taken at the back of Mclaren F1, where i was working back then.

SWMBO and I are off to California this coming July for the Moto GP meeting at Laguna Seca amongst other things....
I thought I might pick up a Laminar Lip direct from the manufacturers while we're there.
I'm 5' 9" with a relatively long back and I'd like to stop the peak on my Tour X from vibrating above 60 mph. I've got the screen set to its mid-position which is about as low as it'll go with the Motorrad Concepts small GPS mount fitted.
Anyone....?

Have had a Lip fitted to my 1200GS for a few thousand kilometres and wouldn't be without it. It performs as advertised, adding a band of diffused air between the still air and the windblast. For me (179cm) it meant the wind noise level was halved. I use the screen in the second lowest position. There is no buffeting in this position. Also works OK in position 3.
