Any one know what this is.....Fuel filler part perhaps?

My 2012 GSA has been with BMW for a couple of weeks having the final drive unit replaced. When I got it back i found the silver bar thing under the fuel filler cap, I've know idea what it is, the fuel filler cap works as pextected.

Any one out there seen one before?

Looks like the pin that holds the cap at the hinge.

Took the cap apart, the bit that has come off is aprt of the mechanism that holds the cap open.....

It works just fine without it.
