He doesn’t say he wants warranty work he says for warranty reasons and as the bike is way out of manufactures warranty he may have a extended warranty and just want a service as the heading indicates. That’s what I was asking, however that’s for explaining to a dim s**t the definition of service. Nuff said

Sorry that my post is causing angst.

I have just extended my "insured warranty" (that was included when I bought my R1150GS from a dealer) for another year - probably a complete rip off at £300 but it includes full European cover for 91 day trips - but the contract stipulates that the bike must be serviced by a BMW approved workshop.

I'm just about to become very poor as its due a 24,000 mile service

I have an extended warranty on both my GS & R1100S but I don’t use a BMW dealer for service I use an independent and I have had warranty work done at a BM dealer with no problem, a mate of mine has a K12LT and the same applies. It might be worth giving the warranty company a ring to check or if you want to use a dealer Jefferies are well worth the trip.

Who is your warranty with?

Mine is with the BMW scheme (run by Mondial?) and the small print is quite clear.

I would only get the routine work done in this way to get the BMW stamps in the book.

Sorry I should have said, mine and my mate are BMW warranties which are run by Mondial, when I contacted them a while ago now they said as long as the service schedule is followed and BM parts used etc there is no problem. I don't know if things have changed thats why it may be worth a call.My servicing is done by a Qualified BMW technician and the book is stamped.

I quote from the Terms and Conditions:

"All service and warranty work must be carried out by an Authorised BMW Dealer or BMW Service Authorised Workshop using only Genuine BMW Parts. bla bla bla"

Have you ever had to make a claim?

what a bummer if you wanted to go for a 90 day or 92 day trip

or is it 91 individual 24 hours long trips? Long way from "the north" to that Europe just for the day.

Yes it states the same in my paper work.Yes two, a gearbox seal & a cylinder head gasket. It works for me but If you are in any way unsure about it use a dealer. As I said its worth a call to Mondial first.
