Hi guys - I'm looking for thoughts and suggestions on the following:-

I seldom carry a pillion and spend most of my time on green lanes. I would like to remove the pillion pegs and the bracket they are mounted on, all the way back to the frame when I ride solo but I want to figure out some way of being able to clip / pin / fix them back on again on the rare occasion that I want to take a pillion (my daughter loves being on the back but is seldom home from uni these days).

Has anyone done a mod like this / thought of a mod like this or can suggest something?

Cut the frame loops for the footrests off a couple of inches from the main frame. Have a spigot welded into the tubes on the loops which would mean that you could offer them up to the main frame of the bike again. Holes drilled in the spigot and in the stubbs left on the main frame would mean that you could have a bolt in there to hold the footrest loops on and would leave them easily detached.

If you can visualise what I am trying to suggest. :)

One small point that I thought I should mention . . . . if your bike is capable of carrying two people i.e. the seat's got space for two, then the rear foot pegs have to be on the machine for an MOT. So cutting them off would either require you to do as has been already mentioned, and make up a set up that allows you re-fit them when required.
Or you could adapt the seat into a single seat set up, with the rear space set up for carrying luggage.

Just my mutterings.

Cheers Aidan - I can vizualise what you mean and have thought quite a bit about this - I was a bit concerned about potentially catching my foot on the bit of the loop that was left but I suppose a rubber cap as weather protection would also help me not to skewer myself

I had thought of a single seat mod but then I move around the seat quite a bit when riding offroad and you only have to look at the length of the seat on an Enduro bike to know that it makes sense ..........

I've got no problems slipping the pegs back on for MOT (hopefully I'd remember) and as I said, I am looking for a solution to reattach for occasional use.

Thanks for the input.

WHY bother.........?:eek
Well you clearly do , so just cut them off and weld a small piece of tube with a smaller diameter to the frame, so you can slide over the footpeg frame over the smaller diameter tube and lock it with a bolt.

but really...WHY? :augie

It will l;ook like crap , but if its worth the 1kg less weight, well, go for it ;)

Cheers - its not the weight that bugs me - I could trim weight in many places - I occasionally get my foot snarled up on them when negotiating narrow gaps / riding very close to a bank etc. It's not bothered me enough to chop them off altogether in the nearly 3 years I've had the bike but when it does happen I mull it over and this post was the result of yet another bought of mulling .............

Cheers

Cant you just fold them up when not in use :thumb ide be more worried sbout your legs :toungincheek :D :D
