I think a lot depends on where you ride
100%, the idea is fantastic, all vehicles should have active cruise - but the implementation on the BM bikes is a catastrophe
I’ve only tried it on cars, on free flowing main roads and motorways I hate it, especially in bends
in 2007 I had active cruise on a 335D (of almost identical tech to the ACC on the current BM bikes) - at the time one of only three BM cars with ACC in the UK - it was brilliant, worked to utter perfection...
never misjudged, never hesitated, just got things right - so good, it was like being with the world's best chauffeur and after 60 miles round the M25 with half the world bad drivers just waved away, you'd totally forget it was even engaged - it was only coming off when crossing lanes to your exit - as you gauged the gaps between slow fools it could freak out, as it didn't have the ability to see what you could see was perfectly safe - and it would bang the ABS full on and get a wobble on over nothing
my Merc with ACC and extra radars for slow speed all the way to rest - and thus manages stop start traffic flow - is mostly is a dithering buffoon - most of its good points were ruined in a software update, and they introduced a load of other madness
-ve: Turns off if wipers have been going quick for x sweeps - yet never once missed a beat in extreme rain previously - and now won't re-engage till a key on off cycle leaving you with nothing !
-ve: Used to drive like a fool launching like its in a traffic light GP - But now fails to accelerate away fast enough to keep up with traffic
-ve: Now likes to forget what to do coming off slip roads to stationary traffic - before it was perfect and far safer
+ve and -ve: Obvious braking based on steering input - changed so less obvious - now flies at corners, less throttle would be safer and more comfortable, so much that in the wet they've made it dangerous
+ve: Reduced the road rage kick-down just to speed up 3mph like it used to do - still gains speed faster than they should have but doesn't change down
I do like normal CC and do use it on bikes and cars but ACC is the last thing I’d want on a bike
I use CC on cars and bikes all the time - cameras and congestion is so bad you need it all the time.
The old BM bike std cruise was great, set in any gear at any speed (unlike the manual states) all my UK bikes would set at 5 mph and I'd use in traffic all the time )
However, if I used the M25 or M6 regularly I’d probably think it was the greatest thing since sliced bread
You can't use ACC enjoyably around Stansted - they are really special, and even in the rain, they seem to think we should have less then the 1 second rule
And last time I used BM Bike ACC on a motorway it was a waste of space - on the M40 17:00 on a weekday, it was so offensive I gave up and did things myself - it loved to find the gaps between lanes and react stupid for no reason
