Any wisdom in replacing Adv stock suspension?

Guys,

I'm thinking in lowering my 04 Adv, by replacing the stock suspension with a standard GS ohlins, so I'm closer to the ground.

However, I find the Adv suspension quite good and since I've never try ohlins I wonder if I'm going to miss anything.

So, is there any wisdom in replacing the Adv stock suspension with ohlins, handling wise?

No personal experience of Ohlins on ADV, but several others here spring to mind...Colin (Metalman) and Ming to name but two......

I have standard height WP and its is a much better set up than the Showa originals. I ride all sorts of roads, some off road and Im about 18stone, so thats another reason to do it. The handling is, in my opinion, way better. As it would be with Ohlins.

I seem to remember being told that the original equipment on the adventure is WP? anyone know for sure.

I always thought mine was a WP unit.....it's a white spring anyway (as WP#s are, and Showa's aren't).....

Did a quick google and Balderstone's wubbleyou site seems to think it's a WP unit too.....

Optimised spring travel and suspension settings
Whether on gravel paths, sand tracks, rough terrain or over long distances, the chassis of the R1150 GS Adventure ensures optimum comfort and control even when fully loaded. Spring travel has been increased by 20 mm to 210 mm at the front and 220 mm at the rear. Easy spring pre-load adjustment to the front can be made by a supplied spanner and to the rear by a hydraulic adjuster. Rebound damping at the rear can be adjusted by means of a small screw. For the first time in a BMW motorcycle, a shock is used at the rear which has suspension deflection related damping, whereby the greater the spring deflection, the greater the damping effect. The WP shock is characterised by sensitive response and a high degree of knock resistance.
