Anybody know how many were built???

Well, I've been having a bit of a play on here -

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?vin=&part=&kind=M&arch=0

and here -

http://www.bmwarchiv.de/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html

The earliest HP2 Enduro frame number I can find is - ZL00001 showing as an August 2004 build date.

The latest HP2 Enduro frame number recognised is - ZL02516 showing as an August 2006 build date.

That would imply just over 2,500 HP2 Enduro's built.

The earliest HP2 Megamoto frame number I can find is ZT95001 showing as an August 2006 build date.

The latest HP2 Megamoto frame number recognised is - ZT96363 showing as a July 2008 build date.

The records only go up to August 2008, so there may be more Megamoto's, but would imply just over 1,300 built so far.

Of course I could be wrong, and misread my findings totally :)

Here,Joe Bar,

Wear it with Pride :thumb .

I had always been told that to homolgate any bike or car for competition use, a manufacturer had to make at least 1,000of that type of vehicle. If BMW had only made <700 HP2's in total for sales to the whole of the world it hardly seems worth the effort to tool up and manufacture. Joe Bar's would seem to be more on the money in terms of what you might expect for a low volume niche vehicle.

The homologation numbers varies from series to series depending on the organisers. For some series it has been tiny numbers, leading to high classic values. Perfect example being the Ferrari 250 GTO (GT Omologato) with only 30 odd being built, and now fetching millions.

Spot on, I'd agree, Jobars research looks right, I realy believed there was only 600 + bikes made and bragged that "fact" more than once or twice,:blast
I'm still nuts about the bike no matter how many were made :thumb

#10224, I assume this is #224. Built August 2005

Oops, that threw me, as it's not in the number sequence I found. I got my anorak back on and took another look at the realOEM.com site :D ;) .

Here's the revisions I came up with in bold below -

The earliest HP2 Enduro frame number I can find is - ZL00000 showing as an August 2004 build date.

The latest HP2 Enduro frame number recognised is - ZL02516 showing as an August 2006 build date.

The above HP2E's are European frame numbers.

Yamoon's bike starts ZL01 and this is a US spec bike.

The earliest US spec HP2 Enduro frame number I can find is - ZL10000 showing as an August 2004 build date.

The latest US spec HP2 Enduro frame number recognised is - ZL10392 showing as an August 2006 build date.

That would imply just over 2,500 Euro spec HP2 Enduro's built and another 393 US spec bikes, bring the total HP2E's to around 3,000.

The earliest HP2 Megamoto frame number I can find is ZT95000 showing as an August 2006 build date.

The latest HP2 Megamoto frame number recognised is - ZT96363 showing as a July 2008 build date.

The records only go up to August 2008, so there may be more Megamoto's, but would imply just over 1,300 built so far.

I can't find the identifier code for the US spec Megamoto's, so if there's a US owner out there that wants to let us have their last 7 digit's, I'll try and find them.

The realOEM.com site only shows US and Europe variants, so I'm assuming Australia, etc get either a EU or US specc'd bike.

Finnish guy and American

650 worldwide? odd number for a production run is that plus all the ones which are raced by that finnish bloke and the american guy...?

the less the better as far I'm concerned....:augie

We've got numbers 001-010, the ones used by the Finnish and American guys (I assume you mean Simmo and Chris)

We're on them here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgBoCDPUIXg

We destroyed one, so your "less the better" is coming true, one by one.
:eek

are you the BMW school is Spain? cos I've got the urge to come down there for a ride about.

and Yes it must Simmo and Chris I just had a thick moment and could think of their names...:blast

perhaps I could come along and write off a couple more HP's to push the residual value up on mine...:augie

destroy away, once they're gone, they're not coming back!

We are unofficially BMW in Spain if you like. We tested, developed and launched the 450X last year here in Spain. Simo Kirssi was the test rider, latterly Gordon Crockhart, once enough of them had been broken! You can ride (destroy) HP2's or 450X's here. We have the full Speedbrain versions of the 450X too, as we're the official upgrade agent for the dealers for this upgrade to "works spec".
We are also introducing HP2 and 450X tours in Morocco this year.
Be good!:pullface

Cool I'm hoping to be flying down in Aldogonales/ Ronda later this month I might try and find you drop in for a looky looky and a coffee if you have any.

:thumb2

No problem, let me know when you're down and if I'm around, we'll abuse some caffeine.
Al the best

Joe - would these numbers be what we call VIN #s over here in the states? If not where is it located on the frame?

246 for my Thai one (US export I guess). Don't have the details of the UK one yet!

OK, anorak is out of the cupboard and back on, and this is the latest I've found based on Naked Rider's Megamoto VIN above.

HP2 Enduro -

The earliest Euro spec HP2 Enduro VIN number I can find is - ZL00000 showing as an August 2004 build date.

The latest Euro spec HP2 Enduro VIN number recognised on RealOEM.com is - ZL02516 showing as an August 2006 build date.

The earliest US spec HP2 Enduro VIN number I can find is - ZL10000 showing as an August 2004 build date.

The latest US spec HP2 Enduro frame number recognised is - ZL10392 showing as an August 2006 build date.

That would imply just over 2,500 Euro spec HP2 Enduro's built and another 393 US spec bikes, bringing the total HP2E's to around 3,000.

HP2 Megamoto -

The earliest Euro spec HP2 Megamoto VIN number I can find is ZT95000 showing as an August 2006 build date.

The latest Euro spec HP2 Megamoto frame number recognised is - ZT96363 showing as a July 2008 build date.

The records only go up to August 2008, so there may be more Megamoto's, but would imply just over 1,300 Euro Megamato's built so far.

Based on Naked Rider's US VIN number, the earliest US spec HP2 Megamoto I can find is ZK99500 showing as an August 2006 build date.

The latest US spec VIN HP2 Megamoto I can find is ZK99585 showing as a March 2008 build date.

That makes only 85 US spec HP2 Megagmoto's, so less than 1,400 in total, or less than half the number of Enduro's.

As mentioned earlier, RealOEM.com's database only goes up to August 2008, so there could be a few more Megamoto's, but unlikely to be any more Enduro's.
