Anyone buy a F800 Adventure?

Is it possible that the OBC uses the smaller US gallons for the miles per gallon calcs, which could explain the lower mpg figures?

IMHO

Awesome bike. Got a sandrover Adv a week ago or so.

More off road focused than the GS and possibly more capable.

Great seat (I`ve the lowered one - standard a bit too high but good nonetheless).

Finish seems good.

Amazing mpg, fantastic range. Nice engine. Feels good and purposeful.

Screen is good but I`ve put a TT extender on the top just to sweep the air over my head a bit better (used to big GS adv screen........).

Handles well despite the knobblies.

Only one observation - for the Adv I did not expect a plastic sump guard - I`m currently designing a much more robust replacement :augie

You heard it here first...............

but anyway, IMHO a cracking bike :thumb

Be nice just too have the option too carry bit more fuel. Then can ride all day and never think of fuel.

Something like this but for the F800?

"Only one observation - for the Adv I did not expect a plastic sump guard"

Agree totally, a bit of a let down the plastic sump guard, my 800 looks much better with the aluminium bash plate, if you haven't got one you need one :)

Looking forward to seeing your design Mark :)

Mmmmmm

At this time I'm going to base it on the GS12 guard and then hopefully get feedback from the lads to tell me which way to go.

I'll post something but the final design won't be down to me - rather what much brainier people than me think it should look like!

Whats good for the F8adv is often good for thr f8, f7 and f650 :thumby:

I`m starting a seperate thread for sump guards

Guys I`m starting a separate thread to ask people their opinions to help me get something right - I`m not hijacking this thread, the guy who started it deserves that but I`m keen to ask people for their input.

It will be called something like `could you please help with this sump guard` or something like that!

But going back to the thread. yes I have the new Adv and I love it to bits :bow

My 1200 LC was in for a service today so took out an 800GSA for a couple of hours. First impressions were very good. Looks nice and purposeful, its tall (even for a 6 footer like me), power is decent and real world i.e. plenty, delivery is good, nice slick gear changes, seat is comfier than it looks, screen is good (for body protection).

I found it very quiet so would probably stick a nice rorty can on it, for the tall people, be better with a laminar lip I reckon. I reckon this bike will be great off road, much better proposition than the 1200 IMHO for this job...impressed :thumb

I own a fully specked up 800, tall metal mule screen etc. all the stuff that makes the bike a long distance tourer, just back from 1,500 miles France/Spain. I'm very fond of it. Tested the GSA and it just felt somehow together, a different bike altogether. I'd jump at one if I had the money

Dearest husband put this up in my name by mistake:eek:. I think it's a great bike but at 5'4" wouldn't come near it! This post is actually from Slumberjack:blast

Hi Guys,
I think this is actually my first post in these forums. I bought the Mrs a factory lowered/low seat F700GS for when she passed her test as she's now doing her lessons on a 'big bike'. She's rode on and off with me for years but only on a CBT so last month I traded in her KTM Duke 125 against the F700GS that Parks Motorrad in East Kilbride sourced specially for her at a very good price for only being 6 months old, with 800 miles and well spec'd.

Any way due to the good service we received (I have to say it's the best experience I've had of any bike dealer that I've dealt with over the years, can fault Alan and the guys) and actually getting to know the guys the seed was planted for me. Now at the time I was a happy Triumph Tiger 800XC owner and when I'd chosen the tiger it was over the F800 based on online reviews, etc. though I never actually test rode the BMW at the time. Even If I had I think I still made the best choice for me at the time. Coming from a GSXR600 the tiger provided me with enough of a sports bike feel and handling to make the change, the triple engine really is great.

So as I said the seed had been planted and that's how it always starts isn't it? I liked the look of the Adventure as they had a red and a sand one in the showroom but the price put me off. It wasn't much more to get a R1200 but I wasn't ready for that as I do take my bikes off road (have a Motocross background) and after returning from a weekends enduro riding holiday in Spain riding CRF450s with some mates I decided I actually wanted something more off road capable without having to have 2 bikes so I went back to Parks to see about a test ride of a standard F800GS. I was telling myself that the GS was lighter than the GSA, looked nicer (might have been lying to myself) and I didn't need the tank, etc. Anyhoo they didn't have any demos and GS's in the colour (Kalamata) and spec that I wanted so we started talking about the GSAs that were sitting :D . Long story short Alan had one of them PDI'd, put trade plates on it for me and I had a test ride. It was totally diferent to the Tiger but I liked it. Even though it's a bit taller, since it was narrower it felt easier to get a foot down on (5'10" and 31' leg) not that this bothered me that much with the Tiger being used to MX bike anyway. One thing I didn't like was the lowered seat. It was very flat and firm and I could feel a ridge in the plastic base.

Things turned out to my advantage anyway as at the last minute the Red one I was buying turned out to have been sold from stock by another dealer so Alan sourced another fully spec'd red one from elsewhere which had the standard seat (hurray....save me £180) but with the road tyres, but this was fine as they offered to swap my new K60 Scouts off my Tiger (was keeping them anyway), fit the Battlewings I had back on the tiger and then put the K60s onto the GSA leaving me with a new set of tyres to sell. It also turned out the bike was just off the production line so had another couple of slight updates.

So I've only had my GSA less than a week but I love her. Not a better bike than the Tiger, rather a very different bike and for what I'm after perfect.

(Note the pic is from before I went back to have the K60s off my Tiger fitted)

Very nice.:thumb IMO, red is the best colour for the 800GSA.:beerjug:

haha...I totally agree :beerjug:

Here are a couple of pics of the bike with the scouts fitted which feel great on the F800, better than on the Tiger and it flows into corners better than the standard road tyres. I've also just fitted an alloy skid plate I collected earlier today...

Hello and welcome :beerjug:

Yes the lowered seat when you do not want one is always a disapointment :( When I get a loan bike and theres one on I allways get them to swap it over makes a huge difference :D

I have the very same bash plate powder coated black :thumb

Great bike, enjoy :beerjug:

Lowered seat

Mmmmm, sadly I have to use the lowered seat as the standard has me on tippy toes and it simply isn't comfy

And yes its no where near as nice as the standard seat which seems much plusher

It's just the standard Motorrad skid pan. Had to buy it separately but from looking about online it seemed to be as good as most options giving decent coverage. I believe these are made by Touratech?. I think it'll take me a while to get used to how much dearer accessories are for these bikes over the Tigers....hopefully you get what you pay for as I do take my bikes off road.
