Who has access to a distillation plant?

You probably saw one most days in (secondary) school science labs. Chemistry teacher pal used a decommisioned one to produce a passable swallie.

Tried or seen what? Have you been drinkin oot o' it, Andy?

Ronnie, the amount o the stuff you drink am sure you could drink your piss in the morning and get drunk again

Apart from the obvious legal restrictions anyone distilling their own spirits needs to be very careful.

It's all too easy to get far too much methanol/wood alcohol in the spirit rather than the lovely ethanol that we all know and love. Results are not good if you get it wrong. Even if you get it right it won't be whisk(e)y though more akin to the Irish Poteen. Try the products of Loch Ewe Distillery to see how it used to be. They have a 120 Litre still!

I've been told that the Swedes and Norsemen are experts due to the silly levels of duty applied in their respective countries. Even higher than our £22.20 per Litre of pure alcohol + VAT which will be back up to 17.5% on the 1st January 2010.
