The only reason I ask is that my 2021 1250GS Rallye my prior R1200RS and R1200RT all seemed to sort of labour when pulling away especially when 2 up my earlier 1200RT didnt it felt a lot better on initial take off and never felt like it would stall

only difference was that bike had a K+N fitted

I pulled the pair of baffles out of the Akrapovic yesterday and rode it today and it seemed a bit better as if it was not so stifled and was maybe breathing a little better, just wondered if a K+N might help a little more ???

Cheers Gents

The only practical use for KN filters is to stop NASCAR engines ingesting tumble weeds in USA desert racing circuits. They can be washed for reuse and soaked again with snake oil at the end of the race whilst the engine is being rebuilt. They do not filter anywhere near as effectively as OEM paper filters and it stand to reason that their hi-flo claim is only possible if they offer lower resistance to air flow ie bigger holes for particles to get through.
A hangover from the era of STP and the like oil additives.

I put a K&N in a Tiger 955i. Next service I did, the throttle bodies internally were caked with a fine oily mud. Avoid.

K&N is junk as they don't flow or seal as good as the paper filters...

Get it down to hilltop, they will sort the fueling out

I have K&N fitted to my Africa Twin and MX5. Pick up is (slightly) better in the car and I’ve not noticed anything untoward within the air box. I’ve done thousands of more miles with the AT plus had the air box and throttle bodies off for the valve service last winter and everything was as clean as a whistle, so from my experience, no nasty side effects at all. You’ll always get two sides to give their opinion and the naysayers never seem to have real proof to back up their misgivings.

Personally, I’ve used ‘performance’ filters on many vehicles over the years and never had anything blow up or suffer any kind of catastrophic damage. But I can’t prove that. :thumb

I have a K & N in my 2016 1200, and when i take the filter out everything is perfectly clean, likewise on my 2007 Tiger 1050, and every other bike i have ever owned.
I do understand how these filters work, after watching a video by respected engine tuner David Vizard, and dont just jump to the conclusion that because they flow more air they must have bigger holes and filter less.

Wow a big difference in opinions
I did a lot of looking around today and it would appear that the standard paper filter stops particles down to approximatly 20-22 microns the K+N in accordance with there specifications stops particles down to 2 microns with an airflow rate of 30% more

Davy thanks, I also have used them in many applications and never suffered any adverse reactions

I think if the original carrier and a smear of silicone grease is applied to both the carrier and the mount it will be ok as its around this area that if anywhere will let debris in as with the KTMs
so im not worried about that im sure it wont be the filter element allowing anything to get through (if there spec is to be beleived)

Im not looking for a supercharger or any additional performance, only to eliminate the problem mentioned in the first post

I did try to buy the decat headers that were for sale in the FS&W section but was beaten to it as a decat was my first thoughts as Malko suggested,

I ordered the K+N today and will fit it with some grease around the seals and keep a close eye on and in the airbox and if anyone has or knows of a set of Akrapovic or alike decat headers please keep me in mind as I dont really want to buy a set new for £1k and it does not cure the problem (albeit a very small niggle ) which is quite easily ridden around Id rather fix it if possible

Cheers guys

Good luck with your purchase. While you are chasing performance shadows, take the bike to hilltop - they also will help increase your power to weight ratio by lightening your wallet.:D

Alan have you read the above post as it says

I gained a decent HP gain and so much smoother

Id take the smoother over power increase on the GS to be honest ive got a few bikes but its the GS i take the Mrs on so smoothness and vomfort is no 1 on the list !!
ste has been on the back of the Busa but finds the 3rd gear wheelies as it comes onto boost a little too much lol

you do notice the difference low down with the akra decat headers..its an easy job to decat the standard headers so could be an option?
