Toying with fitting one to the old GS. Any experience out there?

I have an LED bulb in the X-Country. I don't know what it is or where it came from. It was fitted by Ghiribizzo and it's a good improvement over the original.

I've also bought one of these for the recently purchased MT-09. H4 9003 LED Bulb 15000LM Replacement High/Low Beam Motorcycle Headlight 6000K UK

I might get around to fitting it tomorrow.
That looks interesting Mike. No lead or heat sink, just a direct H4 replacement. Handy, as the space in the headlight nacelle on the airhead GS is not the best. If you fit it, let us know how you get on please but I may just take a punt anyway. Thanks.

Hi, I did a thread on this sometime ago. I replaced the bulb in my g/s a couple of years ago and still going strong. Very bright and good light pattern. Passed MOT.

I know others who have used the same bulb in their GS to good effect. Pic below

Headlight in LED technology. More light compared to the original headlight. With slight modifications to the lamp holder (see Assembly aid) will receive your G/S or GS a modern look. Thanks to the low power consumption (22W) is it a lot easier for the power supply of your G/S or GS.

If the bulb holders are similar to those on an early 1150 have a look in that section because a couple of people have done it (including me) and had good results. I did need to do a little bit of hacking with a Dremel but nothing major.

I had one MOT tester question me on them and I said it was a standard BMW part and two others didn’t bother in the slightest.

Photos attached of the ones I used and if you want to find a price and donate 50% to a local charity I’ll post you a brand new pair.

Many thanks. The tail/stop lamp looks interesting. The headlight looks as though it might be a little larger (with a lead and heat sink) than the one Mike suggested. I'll check it out though. (y)

Headlight works fine but you are right…the heat sink means you can’t replace the rubber cover BUT not caused any issues. On the GS I think you have more room.

Trying Ed the tail light and found it unreliable so would not recommend. I am sure the siebenroc unit would be better BUT worth trying out for the price differential!!!

I've done the tail light with a Chinese one works fine and a lot brighter, I get a photo tomorrow.
Have you got a link to the one you bought as mine only worked when the light was switched on by then gave up after a while…guessing it got too hot and cut out!

Hi..... Have you fitted it yet ?

No, I only got so far as fitting the front axle crash bungs, the carbon fibre mudguard extender and leaving it to cure, fitting the Givi tanklock ring and the side stand foot.
I decided to add some LED sidelights in the headlamp shell and they arrived yesterday.
Off to the dentist now. Might get it all done when I get back.

OK I will wait …. patiently

I forgot about this thread. Having fitted the H4 LED bulb, it's definitely an improvement over the candle that was in there from the factory.
I think I might look at a wee light bar to supplement main beam, though.

I found mine a big improvement on the H4 in dipped beam. Useful at 0400hrs on the 702 returning from the IoM!

On main beam it was less useful with less cut off and a distinct impression of a searchlight!

I suspect that much depends on the design of your headlamp reflector.
