Anyone fitted Givi Outback Trekkers to their R1200GS LC

Maybe it’s just the perspective of the pictures but some of those top boxes look like they hang way out the back.
That’s got to start making the front wheel light?
That massive top box I would want to move way inboard if I was going to fill it up.

Yes it does hang out over the back. It never felt unstable at normal speeds but above 75mph it induced a gentle weave and wandering. Very easy to overload it as it is so big. 58 litres and 5kg payload....

You don’t need to move the indicators. The panniers fit fine with them in the original position.

They fir fine but quite a few of their kits come with the necessary parts to relocate the indicators to a more visible position....

I fitted Givi Trekkers (not Outback) to my 1200GS (now sold) and the instructions also said to relocate the indicators. I didn't and never had a problem.

The relocation advice could be for the USA market where the indicators have to be visible from the side (I seem to recall an issue with GSA aluminium panniers having to be withdrawn from sale due to an indicator issue) although I stand to be corrected.

Mike

Spot on but I don’t know if it’s just a US thing anymore ? :nenau:

Here is my GSA with exact set up you are thinking off....

If you own GS rather than GSA, you will need to use Givi “relocation” brackets for your rear indicators. However if you are installing this kit on a GSA, there is no need to do so as indicators already designed with that in mind and stick out further back than on a GS.

The boxes them self are slightly longer that BMW ones and 42l top box has a larger footprint than bmw box, as a result it looking like it is “hanging” further back like a pendulum.

If you are interested, I have rack and mounting plate for GSA with optional reinforcing brackets, both items are for sale.

PS. Pannier racks will fit standard GS too, however top box plate will not fit GS, as it is GSA specific.

That's a great looking set up :thumb I already have the top box but looking for panniers and the racks for a trip next year.
I like the stickers you've used, very smart. On my red GSA they would look great. Where did you get them?
Thanks

Thank you JJ’s.
I am selling (sold) my GSA and going to KTM, I hope I won’t regret it, so will have racks and plate for top-box if you are interested. Plus other bits and pieces.

Racks being Italian have signs of corrosion so I would recommend them to be refinished in a heavier powder coat. Anodised plate for topbox is fine no need to do anything to that.

Stickers are fully reflective and came from Signature Custom Design. Cost a few bob, but they are very good and heavy duty. I had requested a custom combination for stripes which was done very well and wasn’t an issue.

GETTING SOME

I'll be ordering some Givi Trekker Outbacks in black to go on my new GSA which is coming in March. Sportsbikeshop seem to be competitive on price, but waiting to see of they have a sale in January.

I was looking for Givi Outback top box and panniers + pannier frames for my Yam S10. Once I found the best price on eBay (one retailer for the T/B and a different one for the panniers and rack) I called in at Ghost Bikes in Preston to see if they would price match. They did but could not offer me any more discount as the prices I had found were so keen. The panniers and rails were not in stock so they ordered them for me.

Good to buy local so that if anything goes wrong you can nip in and talk to a human being.

If you want any more details on prices etc send me a PM

Mike

Thanks Mike, I've now ordered them from Sportsbikeshop.com. They seemed to be matching anyone out there on price, and I've always been pleased with their service.

Just thought I'd mention the experience I had whilst buying my Outback Trekkers.
Like everyone else does, I searched around and found the keenest prices, and for what I was ordering, which was a 48 litre and a 37 litre pannier, the smaller of the 2 topboxes, and fitting racks for panniers and top box.
All of the prices were pretty much as other dealers were offering, except the top box which was £225, which is what swayed me towards ordering off Ebay from Native Viking (Northumberland).
Order placed and within 2 days everything was here. Cannot fault that at all.
I did feel a bit peeved off that all the locks were different, although other buyers had told me that the pannier locks would be the same, and a spare matching lock was provided for the top box.
I tried to ring the seller, but being between Chrimbo and New year, got no answer, so emailed him. I had noticed that his company did sell the 3 lock kits which allows you to match your locks together, and mentioned this in my email, that I hoped he wasn't selling different locks on the kit, just to generate a separate sale of some £35. Within 5 mins my phone rang, and it was the Ebay seller. The guy just shouted down the phone at me, covering all subjects from how shit Givi were (he sells their stuff), to how bad the couriers were, to the fact that he was not one of those "F***ing muslims" like they have in London, to him being stressed about his wife flying back from Norway, blah, blah, blah. I just let him rant on til he blew himself out, then said "Thankyou and goodbye" He was demanding an apology off me and my fuc***g stupid mates who'd informed me that their panniers, etc were supplied with matched keys. He didn't get one.
So, that's my experience of Native Viking.
I bough the lock kit from elsewhere, and due to the large saving I made on the top box, I was still quids in.
Lesson learnt.

That’s a shame fella. I’ve been buying boxes and bagster tank covers off of Thor for the last 10 years or so, always been pretty good and a good laugh on the phone.

Funnily enough based on this thread I just bought a 42lt Trekker outback top box and liner bag last week, off of Native Viking, 3 emails via eBay asking questions first one on Sunday full response within the hour each time.

The box was £35 cheaper than anyone else and the liner £4 dearer. Free postage and well packed.

That’s my latest experience anyway.

Presume you left feedback on eBay?

My panniers and top box all arrived with different locks and 3 sets of two keys for each. I just ordered a complete set of lock all keyed alike. The thing is with givi. They have 4 (5 if you include quad) different size boxes with all manner of combinations to suit various bikes. Some (say GS owners) will want a 37/48L panniers and 42L top box, others might want 37/48L panniers and 58l top box. So other poor sod (with 650 Gs) might have “twin” pipes on his bike and will only be able to mount 2 x 37L panniers and a 42L top box. So because of this, givi sell lock kits as a stand-alone article rather than keying up entire set to suit your needs.
I see a positive from this too. Say I OEM GS/A LC, I have 37l pannier sir exhaust side and 48L pannier for the opposite side, I then decide I want to change bikes, but suddenly 48L pannier is way to big for the new bike, well I buy 37L pannier, change over locks and sell old 48L box with brand new lock in it. Does not affect your set up nor does anybody else got same key to your boxes.

To get the Outback panniers with one key operation and a third key for a top box you have to order them as a pair.

I wanted a set of 37ltr black panniers so the order code was OBKN37BPACK2.

You can also order a 'PACK2' set in 2 x 48ltr and 1x37ltr+1x48ltr.

I could not find these on the Givi website but your dealer should be aware of them. The dealer I visited showed me them on their Givi website so maybe the dealer's site is different. They are also available on eBay.

Hope this helps someone.

Mike

Just my penny's worth.

I have the Metal Mule balanced system.

This along with the exhaust allows you two equally sized panniers, it aloso allows you to transfer the panniers between bikes, my panniers from my 08 GS transferred to the 17 LC by just getting the frames and new exhaust.

This allowed me to sell the 08 pannier frames and exhaust which offsets the cost somewhat. the panniers work well with the Givi 58l tobox.

Tens years and the panniers are still excellent, money well spent.

I have a set of rails and aluminium rack to suit these panniers available.

Fitted but never used, long story. Used the Trekkers on two previous bikes and they were very good, well constructed and waterproof. 33L on either side btw, odd sizes look awful and the difference due to the exhaust is barely perceptible. 48L top box I think. all was good.

Apologies for thread hijack

Do you still have the mountings available? I'm just coming from a Multistrada and have 2 x 48l Trekkers I'll want to mount to a 2010 GS. I'm a bit concerned about the asymmetry, are you saying it's a non-issue?

Cheers
