Anyone Fitted There own clutch?

Hi just looking to see if anyone has ever replaced there own clutch on a 1200 gs / gsa as I am looking at changing mine and as most dealer work is average to poor I thought I could probably do a better job myself. Any comments on the job would be appreciated.

Hi Porker, I did the one on my 1100GS a few years back, its quite a big job!

I'm pretty new to this site, but I believe Steptoe runs a service shop, may be worth dropping him a PM and see what he quotes.

Just unbolt the back end of the bike and the clutch is before you! I reckon it will be a fairly lengthy job but as far as I can make out there are no special tools required, just a bag of spanners. (I've not done this I have just scanned the haynes manual description)

Can the back end just pivot upwards if the lower frame bolts are removed and the shaft disconnected.

I suspect it probably can but its probably not much more effort to remove it completely and you don't have the worry of it either getting in the way or crashing down on the back of your head as you struggle to remove the clutch!

Good luck to ya, I'm sure they wouldn't have designed it so it's that difficult to replace a clutch, just looks pretty scary. Do take lots of pics, it's interesting to see a GS in 2 halves

Seems to be a lot of interest in clutch replacement. Have so many of you got a clutch on the way out? What sort of miles are we talking of here? Gotta admit mines been feeling a bit 'iffy' recently.
