Anyone for a spot of Dales riding?

This week is out for me, got too much on. Can't make Friday as it's my wifes 20 week scan. After that I'm in France for a week then Holland for a further week. From the 18th of August onwards I'll be definitely up for some riding. I've spent some time today planning some routes on the satnav and have a range of places I'd like to try.

Im thinking for a first run out I'll go from Redbeck Cafe (Wakefield), up holme moss, followed by snake pass/spot of lunch, then back via Bradfield. It's about 5 hours with breaks. I also have a few other nice loops in and around yorkshire, all start from Redbeck. Mostly full days, but one is a short 3 hour ride out to a pub in Airmyn, so would make a nice evening ride perhaps? I'm working on more. Happy to publish these if anyone has Basecamp and wants them?

JohnnyB, weekdays are best for me also, I just need to arrange for someone to watch the pooch.

I'm hoping to visit Adventure Bike Warehouse on Sat 2nd, listen to Chris(Sgt Bilco) :blagblah and try some of SkyGod's "Mans Chilli" :firemth.
Went to Alaska with them in 2012, great bunch of lads and a fantastic adventure.:rob

If I survive Gary's cooking I plan to explore 'The Dales'.

I would be very grateful for some suggestions of routes to take and places to visit.
Got a Zumo 550 satnav so can download any routes that are available.

I have nothing planned, just the ferry from N. Ireland!
Really depends on the weather but I can explore for as long as I like.

Starting off from Hyde and maybe stay off the busy roads 'if possible'.

Thanks in advance!
Alex

Alex.

I've seen the Adventure option in Basecamp. If I publish them, as the owner of a Zumo, can you automatically see them? What do I need to do exactly. I've only had it a day, so not entirely up on its workings. lol.

I'll do it though,

M

Scratch that, it only lets me publish stuff i've already done!!! Well, bugger me sideways, that is useless for collaboration.

I am travelling to Yorkshire Friday afternoon ferry straigt after my 600 mile service in Dublin.
I will head for Rufforth auto jumble Sat morning. I will also hover around Squires. I will be in Leeds all the next week.
A run out would be good

Seems to be a lot of going around the houses trying to organise a Yorkie rideout, so can I suggest a plan?
How about a meet up at Squires next Sunday at 10am so Pat is not hovering around on his own.
I'm not going to suggest a route as I'm absolutely rubbish at planning. I'm most definitely a follower not a leader.
Any takers?

As I said in a previous post - organizing a collective ride out is similar to herding cats. In my opinion, the best plan for anyone is to:

1. Set a date and start a new thread - be specific with the title
2. Start somewhere that offers shelter for those that wait. Consider having a 2nd pick up point.
3. Be prepared to go on the ride whether it's wet or dry - it's easier to change the destination than the date
4. Be prepared to go on your own (or return home) if it turns out no one else turns up (unforeseen events do happen)

Having recently been on a ride that encountered a number of 'issues', here's a few rider guidelines:
- arrive with a full tank or at least enough to do 100 miles
- arrive on time & if you fancy a brew before you go, arrive with time to spare
- check to ensure your bike is ready to ride & have a breakdown plan
- take a map or satnav so you know how to get home or find help should that situation arise
- read up on what the drop-off system is (marking junctions when riding in groups). I think there's an explanation on this forum.
- fill with fuel as a group that way you're only filling when the smallest tank needs it

I'm back from holidays and so on, later than expected although I gather the weather has been shit.

Anyone up for riding on Friday (5th Sept)?

I have a couple of routes in the satnav ranging from 3 hrs to a full day, but untested so dont feel able to organise a ride out yet. That said, if someone wishes to be a test dummy for these routes, I could "lead". All start from Redbeck Cafe, Wakefield.

Anyone interested? Is this too ambiguous?

I was thinking initially of doing the 3hr route which is out through Holmfirth, Woodhead and on to Glossop, then back via Snake Pass and Barnsley. 85 miles approx.

That's not the Dales ?

It's the Pennines

Bit too far south for me this week

True that. Its the shortest one I have planned out, just to get a feel for things. If anyone has an alternative for Friday, feel free to jump in.

Hi martin would be up for this but did Glossop and snakepass last weekend would prefer the dales I know the dales quite well probably
not aswell as Jonnyboxer what time are you thinking of meeting at the redbeck

As it stands I am meeting myself at Redbeck at around 1pm on Friday :roll. I'm doing this run as a test of Garmin Basecamp really. Cannot very well advertise rideouts until I know it all works properly. Plus, Ive never led a ride of more than 4 before so practice practice and all that.

If anyone has a better idea for friday afternoon and wants to lead it, im all ears.

Hi Martin, would be interested in a dales run friday afternoon, provided my morning goes to plan. Where is the cafe please? Or I could meet you en-route somewhere when you know your route.
Cheers, Steve

Being new and all, I'm not sure of the etiquette so apologies if butting in isn't the thing to do...but not having any friends and not living too far away (near Howden) I'd be up for joining in at some point if you'd have me?

Redbeck is on Doncaster Road near Crofton, Wakefield. Postcode is WF4 1RR. :)

You're not butting in mate...lol

Theres going to be a short run tomorrow consisting currently, of just me, although Steve may come along and mrsavo. Not sure. Irregardless, I'm going, even if alone.

This isn't an "organised" ride as such, just turn up with a full tank and we'll decide where we're going. Drop off system if more than 3 riders I imagine.

1pm tomorrow (Friday) Redbeck Cafe, Wakefield.

Cheers pal,

The reason I can't come tomorrow is the same reason I have no friends. :fiddle I work away pretty much all the time and won't be home till Saturday night, then away again Monday morning. I'm usually off every second weekend, but will happily join in if I can at some point. I don't usually attend organised rides for the reasons you stated in your first post and it was quite refreshing to hear someone with the same views. Just thought I'd get my foot in the door so to speak.

Have fun tomorrow.
