Anyone Got a 1200GS Without ABS?

I had a test ride on a 1200GS yesterday. Thoroughly enjoyed it and it has set the brain ticking a bit. The demo I rode had the servo ABS fitted. The brakes were very efficient, but the thought in the back of my mind was the number of riders with the servo system who have had problems with it.

I believe the braking system without the ABS uses the same calipers, but without the servo assistance. Is this correct?

Has anyone out there got a 1200GS without the ABS who can post details of how they have found their bikes? I know there have been a number of threads about whether or not to have it, but I am intrested in the experiences of those who have ordered the GS without and how they find it.

GS12 non ABS

I ordered mine without ABS. As far as i know these bikes do not have the servo assistance (although i may be wrong).
My main reason (if im honest!) was the extra cost involved and my financial resources were stretched enough. Also i felt that i could do without the extra complication of ABS/Servos.
There has been alot written on this subject (for and against) and at the end of the day it all boils down to your own personal preference.
I find my non ABS brakes fine for everyday riding (amongst the best brakes i've ever experienced on a bike), love the bike and am quite happy with my choice.
So there you have it, one very satisfied non ABS owner!!

No ABS = No servo and no linking. That is, just plain ordinary separate hydraulic brakes.

I have one on order for delivery in 2 weeks - I chose this option because of all the problems that I have read about with the servo and ABS brakes on this and the Adventure Rider website.

I have recently joined the happy brigade with my choice of non abs 1200gs and quite happy at that.Never had a bike with abs and allways coped without it so couldn't justify the extra cost just for something that "might" improve the braking I agree with the thought on here it's a question of taste and cost if you can afford it!Some like abs some not.

mines none abs the front lever works the front the rear works the rear no servo no flasing lights 2 wks old 800mls the front is very good but the back feels a bit weak but is ok NO squaling noise either my 1150gs didnt have them so with the lighter 12 ive took the chance again not to have them also they are cheaper to service and the money saved alowed me to have panniers and top box

Thanks for the input gents, its really appreciated.

I've spoken to 3 dealers about the ABS option. Two of them said that it does make them more desireable with the ABS. They both said the ABS models will get about £300 more when secondhand compared with the non ABS models. The third dealer was trying really hard to convince me that the ABS was a must have, even so far as saying that it will make it really hard to sell on secondhand if no ABS is fitted.

I like the idea of the non ABS because the brake system is much simpler and no servos to worry about. It will also mean I will be able to do my own brake fluid changes with no problems at all.

I think Mike O was spot on when he said he specs the bike for his own use, but its always good to consult the collective wisdom of the UKGSers.

I'm personally in favour of the servo / ABS setup. But the argument "you get more when you trade in" is total bollocks. If it makes the bike worth £300 more at trade in, and costs £750 in the first place - you've still lost £450!

And, as the 1200 is only a year old, and the non-ABS model only about a month old (?), I respectfully sugget that no one really knows how desirable or not the non-ABS version is.

4,500 miles ABS & servo, no problems at all, just superb braking every time!
