Just been reading a report on this lid in 'Ride' mag on the Shoei Multitec flip front lid, very positive things said about it, but being sceptical of all such reports any of you guys got one of these and if so I would value your opinion.

Cheers.

They look and feel like a good lid, I fit loads at work so I would say they will be as popular as the Syncotecs

I've got a Shoei Multitec, very nice helmet, if it fits well then it is quiet and exceptionally comfortable. Easy to fit sunglasses on whilst wearing it and by all accounts the installation of intercoms was thought of in the design.

Thanks Andy, that does it for me, now, where's the best place to get one in the Kent area I wonder?

I found the Shoei Syncrotec okay for the first year however after that the fittings loosened up to such an extent no amount of adjustment would get the visor to seal properly. After using & liking Shoei helmets for years I found this disappointing and bought a System 5 which is still okay after 20K+ miles however it is a noticably heavier helmet than either the Syncrotec or the new Multitec.

Anyone used a Shoei Multitec for any legth of time and significant mileage e.g. 20k+ yet?

Just bought one.

Opinion after 300 miles yesterday.

(1) I bought a small but my Arai side is medium. The Shoei medium seemed too big.

(2) It is 100% better than the Nolan I tried. There again, some people like Nolan.

(3) Reasonably quiet. A bit noisier than a regular full face but not too intrusive (I wear ear plugs)

(4) It is not as comfortable as my old Arai full face but it's not bad. Probably I need a small+? I think it will bed in OK though.

(5) Reasonably cheap.

(6) The chin piece comes in much closer than my Arai. This knocks the boom mike down when shuting the helmet down. It's a bit annoying but can live with it.

(7) With Autocom speakers in it is a tight fit against the lugholes. I prefered the Arai where you can carve away a bit of the foam to bed the speakers in better. Wouldn't be a problem if I had 'in ear' speakers.

(8) The air vents seem to work OK.

Overall not to bad. I am taking on the Morocco jaunt, so I hope I am right.

I have one too. I find it nice and light compared to my System IV, the autocom fits very easily, speakers fit in the moulded recesses and the mike behind the removable cheek pads (I do have quite small ears). The vents work well, the pinlock visor system is excellent, the spare light smoke visor given free is very good. The helmet is very quiet in free air, the only noise I get is from airflow round the side of my screen causing a bit of turbulence around the bottom of the helmet.
I got mine from Customlids for £252 http://www.customlids.co.uk/helmets.htm
I heard good things about the Syncrotec from Police friends but it looked so ugly so waited for the Multitec.

Bought one a week ago. Well pleased.

I am a serial helmet buyer - bought the BMW Enduro thingy last year, but was disappointed with the booming noise & 'crushed ear-syndrome.'

Having owned a System IV (excellent bit of kit :thumb2) I bought a System V, but took it back after 5 minutes. The chin vent plastic thingy was loose, and the 1200GS screen eddying caused the vent to vibrate. Many of the System Vs in the Dealer seemed to have this problem. Not so with the Multitec. It's well made, exceptionally quiet, comfortable, looks more like a full face, good value, and is lighter than the IV. It is easy to use one-handed, and doesn't require the 2-hand-double-click-side-shuffle of the IV.

Downsides are;

- It was advertised initially in many colours (I ordered blue). However, they are only available in the UK in White, Silver & Black (shiny or matt). The UK brochure has been amended. If you manage to find a colour one, it's probably from the Continent. I bought a matt black one, which looks cool, but may be too hot in the summer :(

- The visors often have a small gap at the top (towards the sides between the visor & rubber seal). This is especially true when the smoked visor is fitted. It is very very very easy to adjust (instructions are provided), and the effort is worthwhile. If you haven't checked/adjusted & you think yours is quiet, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

- The neck comfort thing is tricky to fit if you buy a small helmet. But not impossible.

Overall, for £260 (inc. 2 visors + pinlock), I fully recommend serious consideration if you're after a flip-lid.

Bought the Multitec yesterday after reading comments on here and initial thoughts are that I made a good choice, although exactly the same as wapping I found the medium too large compared to my Arai so gone for the small. A bit tight at the moment across the forehead but hoping that will bed in. Now the task of fitting the Autocom:eek: (Any tips in that direction will be greatly appreciated Rich) IMHO this lid looks better than any of the other flip-ups, and is superb value for money when you consider the extras thrown in.

Any news re fitting the autocom, JDH ?
I'm thinking of getting this combo, rather than waiting for the system 5 bluetooth.

Just bought a shiny black one from Gear Change in Scunthorpe. Came with the whisper strip kit, a free smoked visor and a pinlock insert! Result!

Yesterday I fiited the Autcom headset. Feck me! What a doddle. Someone at Shoei must have actually asked real users of headsets what they found irritating.
Old Shoei-san has made the lug hole apertures deeper, the cheekpads are a doddle to remove and replace, and the whole job was done in 10 minutes.

Now the hard speakers no longer squash my elephant ears, I can hear properly, and the mike boom is no longer twisted up my left nostril every time I close the flip front.

As for the lid, it says Medium (57-58) yet my swede is 59, so they are definitely a "generous" fit.

I retired my old Syncrotec 2, drilled some 2 inch holes in it, and now it is a plant pot

I bought a matt black one the week they came out and have done 6k miles.

1. bin the chin defelctor it just gets in the way and does nothing for wind noise or warmth
2. the whisper skirt thing seems to work
3. the pinlock is a Good Thing
4. noisier than my raidII but quieter than the Synchrotec
5. Fitting the starcom intercom bits was the aforementioned piece of urine.

Excellent.

Sorry for delay in replying Gasman, and I see others have already done it for me. Agree totally, pofp to fit the Autocom and a great lid. I think I've made a mistake in buying the 'small' though, giving me a headache due to being too tight against my forehead. So, if you are anyone else is interested in buying it from me check out the For Sale section. I will definately get the medium if I can sell this one, recommended.

Thanks JDH, but I got a massive heed ! Will prob have to get L or XL.:)

Just got the Matt Black one in a small normally a 56/57 size so in-between

I did read In one place the shoei are doing the padding in different size like Arai
don't know if its true I asked at Jordan's bikes in Leeds and they did not know

plus they price matched customlids as well :thumb

I know the cheek pads come in different sizes, they have done for years, ever since the XR1000 came out. You can tailor the thickness to your face size

Would be great if I could change the padding around the forehead area, so thanks for the info, I'll check it out:thumb2

I bought a shiney grey/anthracite multitech a few weeks ago from GS in Hillsborough. Was going for a large but the dealer convinced me that a medium would suit better long term...... and he was spot on!! It was a tad tight at the start as you would expect but is starting to bed in well although I think thiner cheek pads will help. If like me you wear glasses this helmet makes it a lot easier than my previous Arai to put htem on without wrecking them!!:thumb2
