EBC rear pads for my 1200 cost about 15 quid. Anyone paying 40 pounds for a single set of brake pads has more money than sense. Especially as the BMW genuine ones last about 4000 miles and the EBC ones last 12000 miles.

Mine were £41.50 plus vat at CWs - then they had to be fitted. Obviously I was disappointed to be charged that much. the final bill, as I said, was £392.27. It did make me question whether I could afford to own this bike, especially as that didn't include the annual. I do close to 12000 miles a year - if that means an expensive services and an annual, then I can't justify the expense. Both my cars combined, including a Merc, probably cost less than the bike.

So I need to learn how to do many of the tasks myself. Its not a question of having more money than sense, its about not having an alternative at the time it needed to be done. My wife went bonkers when she saw the bill. An expensive lesson for me.

What did your dealer charge you for 3.8L of semi-synthetic oil and what was your total bill for the service?

TIA

oil was 26.96p total was 178.35p i think they charged me to clean breaks.
if i new how good the warranty is , i would have saved £150 ,and done it myself.

No sorry, I didn't mean you specifically :)

Things like brake pads changes, filter changes etc are easy to do yourself, and there are plenty of people on here who will offer good advice. The trouble is you'll need to spend even more money on decent tools, but in the long run you'll definitely save money.

Mouse how did you toast your rear brake pads in 4000mi ? I got 20,000km from mine and they had a little bit left. That's almost 13,000 miles from the BMW rear pads.

Different riding style I suppose. I am quite heavy on the rear brake. Although since owning the GS I think my style has changed - more engine braking and linked brakes means I find myself using the rear less these days. So I think even I would get more than 4k from BMW rear pads if I fitted them today.

But as the EBC items seem to offer much better value, I shan't be :)

Originals on my bike were organic, and were toast at 9K. New BWM part is sintered, and seems to be leaving far less dust/lasting far longer.
