Or is it just me?
... riding out down to Thruxton BSB camping on my newly purchased GSLC... called in to petrol station to fill up.
Stopped by pump. Put bike into N, engine still running ready to switch off, put heel of boot to push sidestand down and it clicked into 1st gear... nearly took off.
Heel of boot had gone in to the triangle gap in the gear lever, when I pushed the sidestand - I also selected first.
After composing myself and changing underwear I decided to turn engine off BEFORE dropping sidestand from now on..
Anyone experienced the same?

Or hold the clutch in:blast

Never happened to me, as I always leave the bike in 1st when turning off.

Don't ask me why.:augie:D

Done it a few times when touring with the missus on the back.
Get petrol pump, put down side stand, then remember I need to lower suspension to make it easier for here to get off ( need engine running) Once done I go to put down the stand that is already down and BANG, big suprise and lurch. I think I did it two or three times before my little brain retrained itself.

I suspect we've all done this, or something similar more than once. At least it was only a stain on your undercrackers & a bit of brain retraining on this occasion.

The one that amused me was a poor guy I know with a Super10. Shortee boots & draggin jeans that got hitched up over the heel plate. When he came to a stop, he couldn't get his foot down & just toppled over. Felt a right idiot, but only a few scrapes & bruises. We all live & learn, sometimes the hard way.

Nope but I do like several ops have said I keep clutch in, and leave it in first, then turn engine off, because have been warned GS can fall forward if on sidestand and in neutral, so just being safe.

Inexperience, certainly not the bikes fault.

Certainly not inexperience, 2nd gs and a lifetime of biking. Just a change of routine and something catches you out, I am even more experianced than before because I learnt something from my mistake.

But not as experienced as thumperbob ;)

When you ride off road, it's customary to stop, keep hold of the front brake, let the clutch out and stall the engine.
Leaving the bike in gear, is safer if there is a gradient and it saves all the faff of trying to find neutral.

I think the Simon Pavey ORS school teaches this too....
