Hi peeps
Been meaning to do this for ages but never got round to it.
Looking at weekend sat / sun or week after (6th,7th or 13th, 14th)
Never been on it but know the way on from Gillamoor.
I have a proper map and I am sure we could make a day of it.
Anyone who has been on it and knows of any bit to avoid, please post.
I have heard there is a hill that dual purpose bikes wont get up but not sure where abouts, anyone?
It wont be a massive abount of miles off road but it does look well worth a visit.

I'm no expert but Rudland Rigg was my very first go at riding off road.
We joined near Kirbymoorside and rode to the very top at the Stokesley end.
We did try the turning right which leads over to Blakeley but I refused to ride down the steep rocks. My bike, a Serow, would have easily made it, my nerves wouldn't.
The next tricky section was the far end of the trail. Again, it was a steep descent over rocks but in my opinion, not as bad as the first.
I still didn't ride down it though :) - I let someone else do the scary bits.

This was a fantastic crisp sunny & dry day in January. There was deep snow and ice at the far end but I doubt in August you'll find any :)

I'd consider joining you but I don't think my nerves or skills have improved since then!

I've done a few runs over Rudland Rigg , quite happy to have a go but I've no free weekends for a few weeks.

It's probably easiest to go from Gillamoor north which then leads to a few other lanes of similar standard, you could make quite a good day out with mixed lanes/on-road moorland riding without too much difficulty. Not sure what bike you'r'e thinking of but there's a good GS-suitable route that you can put together.

I could be up for this on my XCountry. Got a few days/weekends spare, inbetween jobs at the mo. Keep it updated as to the dates.

:beerjug: Dave.

Would like to come along too on my xchallenge
Will keep a look out for when your going
Cheers Paul

Thats the far end of Rudland Rigg, There seems to be alot of work carried out as last time we were up there there was a lot of weather erosion and some deep gullies running down the left. By the looks of the video the gullies seem to have been filled.

Easy do-able on a big GS type bike with the rider having no experience of off roading.........ahem :thumb:D

will keep an eye on this thread, might be able to make it.

You'll find more pics and video on the web.
I don't remember this section - must have had my eyes closed :)

wow it was like tarmac then:D

But great riding all the same.

I wondered when you would post that clip:D

Well this weekend has come round quicker than I expected so its gonna be next sat or sunday (13th/14th).
Thought I might have a few deffo's by now.
I know Jonny Boxer likes a bit of this and that Winkleyowlie has the perfect bike for it and is keen to do a bit (without scratching it).
Any deffo's for the sat or sun?
AdamA, don't you do a bit of the dirty stuff?

Hi Jason,
I would be up for it on Saturday, but unfortunately I've just been told that "yes" I do have to go to the christening on Sunday.

Steve

Got the dates of the christening mixed up,so I'm OK for either Saturday or Sunday.

Steve

Could maybe do the Sunday, me and my better half, but would only be on Serow and Xt 125.
Last time we did this with a couple of mates on 1200 GS's. Ended up manhandling the bloody things the last qtr mile down the rocky bits, i think it's a bit better now though.
Let us know a rough time to meet there.

Best get the alloy bashplate put on the X-Country,haven't found any handguards yet, might have to buy new ones.

What do you think the chances of getting my lovely as new bike scratched and dented are.:augie
