Looks like I'm going to be spending some weeks/months in Linlithgow.

Anyone got any recommendations for Accommodation feeds etc?

I've read about the Champany in Linlithgow, but I'm a big fan of hotels. I'd rather find a nice pub that sells good beer, has good food and does rooms.

Any ideas?

Happy to travel for 30 or so minutes to find somewhere nice.

Be coming up in the middle of Jan.

Get the train to Edinburgh

yes, the best thing about Linlithgow is the train service that brings you to Edinburgh. There's one every half hour through the day.

You'd have a wider choice of accommodation just along the road, here in South Queensferry. It depends upon your budget but you can have everything from the Dakota to a B&B.

Is Stirling or Perth within easy reach?

Good pubs in Linlithgow?

The Four Marys - a real ale pub

The Black Bitch - yes really and no it's not racist. A "black bitch" is someone who is a native of the burgh, so Alex Salmond white and male is a real black bitch.

The town itself is the original county town of West Lothian with lots of history. Handy also for the mway network and rail links so has huge housing estates for commuters. There are very few "black bitches" left in the town, which is why the real natives take some pride in the term.

As Schtum says, there are alternatives such as SQ but I'd have thought Linlithgow is OK for a short stay.

You might try gumtree.com's Edinburgh listing also. That'll include rooms in flats etc if you want to go that way.

Toad, good to know you've made it back to the UK in one piece hope things are looking a bit better now:thumb2

Champanys is expensive, but brilliant food . . .

A mate of mine who visits Sun has found a new place to stay, which he highly rates. I'll ask him for the details, or you could phone Sun and ask the recptionist for their recommendations?

Cheers,

Neil.

Hmm, I'm might just go and ask them when I arrive there for work:augie

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Also - check the Star and Garter. Decent beer, decent grub. Also - you'll find most of Sun there on Friday evenings after work.. (or at least they were a few years back when I worked there, there has been many rounds of redundancies since... :()
