Michael Mckone owned my 1200 GS before me from new.

I was wondering if anybody from this forum or beyond knew him? He's from yaxley, peterborough - he's ex directory.

The reason i ask is because i want to ask him what colour he bought his (now my) GS? Sounds odd but on the registration doc the bike is down as RED but the bike is indeed black.

I'll be a bit miffed with JC Dundee if they knowingly sold me a bike that has had a colour change and will want to know why as that worries me further and also, im told that the guy traded it in to JC but surely thats a porky if he lives in peterbourough?

Also, id just like to know what recall work, warranty work was done on it while he had it?

Can anybody help please? :)

Lots of guys change the colours of there bike and black was the in colour last year :thumb2 after all its only the beak and tank top panel ...don't worry about that ...

If he's on here someone will know him good luck :thumb2

Could have easily traded the bike with JC, I've sold bikes to customers in Eire, N. Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France & Cyprus plus all over England.

Perhaps he had the bike sprayed black or taken the even easier option of swapping the two coloured panels with someone else? Plenty of GS's have panel swaps, doesn't affect the Warranty, can't see a problem.

No worries

I've had to change the V5 on both of my 1200GSs bought new from two different dealers. I ordered, and received, both bikes in black but both V5s stated red. :nenau

I believe dealers will swap panels to create the colour and spec of the bike the customer wants but neglects to update the registration details on their system so when the V5 lands on your doormat it states the colour that BMW released it from the factory with.

Simple job to rectify and no cost, other than postage stamp, to update the V5.

Not just BMW that don't get it right, according to the DVLA, my KTM 400 is actually a 450????

If he is ex directory, drop him a letter, worked for me.

Also ring up BMW UK and they will be able to tell you exactly what warranty work has been carried out on your bike, and by which dealer.

Good luck:)

If any one changes the colour of their bike panels etc. you are well advised to inform DVLA. There is a specific part of the V5 for colour change notification.

The guardians of the road can be motivated to stop you if they see a mismatch between reg and bike colour!!!!

I know coz I was that stopped rider, for that reason. It was suggested that the insurer might object to a colour change in the small print.

Just a thought. :)

I had my FZR 600 R painted up in Yamaha racing colours Yellow/White/Black.
I filled the appropriate part of the Reg Doc for colour change with the above mentioned colours.
Guess what was stated on the Reg Doc when it came back?

Multi Coulored!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:blast

Same happened to me when I resprayed my Moto Guzzi Le Mans red, white and green many moons ago. Anymore than 2 colours and DVLA list it as multi coloured.
