This may be just too unambitious for you skilled metal monkeys, but has anyone manufactured an aluminium tool tray cover for an 1100?

Looks like it might be an easy job - I'm just keen to pay a bit less for one, even if that means it comes from Garstang rather than Germany...

Yep, just like that. Did you manufacture that?

Might you be able to do another? Is there a fire escape in Enfield that now has a hole in it where you nicked the Lionweld??

Paul,

I knocked one up similar to that shown in Greg's photo. It is also made from aluminium checker plate, and I have it hinged at the front, with the stainless steel hinges bolted to the front, almost vertical face of the ally rack frame ( the face just near the front of Greg's plate).

Using some stainless button-head screws with stainless Nyloc nuts I bolted a slice of angle iron (why isn't it called angle steel ?) with a vertical slot which mates with the original lock, glued some rubber around the underneath to effect some sort of a seal as well as put some springy upward pressure on the lock, and to prevent the thing from rattling.

I also bolted a Givi topbox mounting plate on top of the toolcover to move the topbox further forward.

Unfortunately I have yet to progress from silver halide so am unable to show you a photo.

Vern used to do them IIRC....I'm sure it's the sort of thing he could knock up in half an hour for a small consideration ;)

Or you could pay through the nose like I did and get one from Bestrest :doh . Comes with a nice tool holder thingy though, and it was back in '02 so pre Vern.

Thanks

Thanks for all the advice guys - I've PM'd Vern to see whether he has time for this kind of thing at the moment.

Cheers,
