As the title says, has anyone bought their GSA without the dynamic pack and with hindsight do you wish you had, or are you happy with your choice?

I've been offered one without and I'd like some opinions before making my own.

Cheers! :beerjug:

a thought

say in two years time you wanted to sell
10 very similar bikes for sale
all full BMW service history
all pretty similar condition
all had premium and dynamic packs
except yours
all very close in price
would people want to see yours first or last ????? :thumb2

personaly i prefer bikes without abs esa etc,but all my bms have had premium and dynamic just for easy salability when i change bike.if you think you will keep it for a long time then dont worry about it,but you will find it difficult to resell unless its ppriced way below its better appointed brothers.
i had an off road skills gsa with no abs and it was a difficult sale tbh

Simples!

Say in ten years time.................?:D

Factory ordered my GSA30 with ABS, heated grips and low first gear and that was all and I had to think long and hard about getting the ABS option.

I wanted as 'simple' a bike as possible as I was keeping this one for a while. My friend didn't want anything on his at all apart from heated grips, not even ABS......! I've never ridden a 1200GSA with Premium or Dynamic so I don't know what i'm missing but since my last bike was an HP2E my GSA30 is absolute luxury by comparison!

I ordered mine with the specification I wanted not the next owner and hopefully when my bikes done 80 or 90'000 miles it'll be all the better for it.

It's your choice although the 'BMW Select finance' bikes seem to all come 'fully loaded' and that would make sense when they're handed back in to the dealer after two years with 12k on them.

I was going to order a base spec GSA to save money and add aftermarket parts such as heated grips, extra lights etc. But after a lot of thought I went for both the dynamic and premium packs (plus full luggage!).

This will probably be my last bike so I thought I might as well push the boat out on this one. But I was also thinking about resale value and desirability and the fact that I was only getting pathetic interest in the building society so I might as well spend it and enjoy it.

This is the first bike I have ever owned with ABS, I haven't had it kick in yet but it does give a feeling off added safety on wet/slippery surfaces although I don't take liberties with it.

I have to say that 3 months down the line I think I made the right decision.

I have always bought my bikes without 'extras' and never had any trouble selling them - just keep them in tip-top condition and they will sell at a good price.

Extras typically have a high mark up in relation to what they cost and are a great way for the manufacturer to maximise profits - the extras also depreciate faster than the standard bits too so the total resale value of the bike is proportionally less than a bog standard bike.

i insisted on my 2011 GSA having neither dynamic or premium packs.

this was due to my having tried numerous examples of ESA equipped bikes and finding all of them to be poor in comparison to quality suspension. i also had a pair of wilbers waiting to go on the new bike. even if i didn't i would not have specced ESA (or the non ESA stock units either).

i've never needed traction control, so can't see the point of that. tyre pressure monitors do have some merit, but not enough to counteract the issues i read about here.

i do have ABS though.

so is this bike a keeper then?
and how do you figure resale will go?
and are you bovvered:D

+1

I would sooner buy a mint 12000 mile bike, without the extras, rather than a scruffier 12000 mile one with all the toys

Owner 1 was probably discerning motorcyclist who knew about his bike

Owner 2 was probably a wannabee, sucked in by the hype and had no idea how to look after his bike

Speaks volumes about the previous owner:thumb

Anyway on a 4 year old BMW - all the toys will probably be broken by then and the bike will be out of warranty:augie

If I was buying new, I'd only go for Heated grips and Computer, only coz I'd like to know what the ambient temp is :thumb

probably not. it's the best bike i've ever ridden, but hopefully there'll be a better one in the garage one day.

it's true that most will want the fully loaded models when buying s/h, but there will be a few who don't. the *lower* :eek spec models like mine are actually pretty rare, so i don't see a problem. mine was the only bike of that spec in the country, at the time.

bovvered? not in the slightest.

johnny's right. i bought exactly the bike i wanted. well, actually, i wanted another white one, but they'd stopped doing them. i was going to spray it, but i really like the yellow now i've discovered it's even faster than white :)

ps. i do have heated grips and the computer. i wanted them. the chrome exhaust, not so much. in bmw speak it's called the Comfort :comfort Pack

i think more people(like me:augie) should really order the lesser equiped bikes so resale is not such an issue, tbh i would be happy with just comfort pack i think.

Glad to be recognised as a discerning owner :) I always knew that I was, but it's nice to have confirmation :D

would not even look at a GS or GSA without both Premium and Dynamic:thumb

I bought both Premium and Dynamic packs on my 2010 twin cam GSA and enjoyed the versatility it offered me, however, that was when I was a BMW virgin and thought I was buying the most reliable bike in the world.

I'm with JB now with hindsight, if I was buying one to keep long term, I would want it as simple as possible and let Jonno at ADV Warhouse sort new shocks out etc when required.

Best regards Stretch. :)
