Anyone order their GSA without Dynamic Pack?

+1

I would sooner buy a mint 12000 mile bike, without the extras, rather than a scruffier 12000 mile one with all the toys

Owner 1 was probably discerning motorcyclist who knew about his bike

Owner 2 was probably a wannabee, sucked in by the hype and had no idea how to look after his bike

Speaks volumes about the previous owner:thumb

Anyway on a 4 year old BMW - all the toys will probably be broken by then and the bike will be out of warranty:augie

i got my bike with all the extras and i look after it and know how to.... altho mine was second hand but the extras like abs ect are there for if somthing happens a slip ect or car pulling out you are slightly less likely to go down ... altho no amount of extras can help if you are clueless!

Keep the faith, enjoy your bike:thumb

My bike has all the reliability options on it I.E none of the crap that breaks and I don't regret it one bit. Not saying any of it isnt useful but it isnt required either.

Can't believe people buy a new bike and are concerned/worrying/thinking of about resale value a few years down the road..and before they've even ridden it. :comfort

Bit like the knobs who put car seat covers on their new car, for when they sell it :nenau

No offence implied to posters here btw :beerjug:

trust me im not bothered about the resale value i know this is the bike im having for a good 10 yrs (all things forgiving) and its hopefully taking me on some awesome adventures in a few years when i have the money to sack off work for a while

Sign of the times methinks.
Casting my mind back,to my yooth the only thing you had to decide was wot color :D.
My new CB200,Red or Green. [Red of course]
Same with my CB250 T,Red or Blue and never new wot " resale value " was or cared
Come to think of it,my only concern was - when could i have it ;)

Both my previous vanilla 1200's had no extras apart from heated grips and they were all the better for it. :thumb2

Current GSA was bought secondhand and has some nice extras on it including non-servo ABS which I suppose is good to have. The trip computer thingy is next to useless and only serves to distract me on long journeys when I can't help but fiddle with it...

No problem with keeping things basic as long as your going to put some miles on the bike and not worry to much about the future resale value etc

(My Katoom is even more basic and even has good old fashioned carbs... no frills and no probs in over 35k miles :D)

No

I could have bought an ex demo minus abs but it wasnt worth what to my mind was a compromise to save a grand or so on an already large purchase price.

Plus - abs works- its saved me a couple of times. you never know when you'll need it:thumb2

Reliability had nothing to do with my decision to spurn the options. It was more that the standard suspension is near hopeless IMO, and I can't see the point of traction control on a 110hp bike.

I think ABS is likely to be more useful, but wouldn't consider it essential.

As the title says, has anyone bought their GSA without the dynamic pack and with hindsight do you wish you had, or are you happy with your choice?

I've been offered one without and I'd like some opinions before making my own.

Cheers! :beerjug:

I ordered mine with comfort pack only. I decided that I could do a lot of suspension twiddling for £1,000 or so. It's now two and a bit years old with 36,000 miles on it and I'm happy enough. My previous 1200 was the same spec and after just under 50,000 miles in three years I was still happy.

Buying a 1200GS with ESA was not an option in my case, being a shortarse (5' 8").
Sat on a GSA but felt like I was bow-legged on a horse, and my feet didn't have full contact with the ground.
Tried the GS with ESA but still not comfortable, even with lowered seat.
Tried the GS with lowered suspension and low seat -Bingo . Greatly improved foot contact on ground.
BMW does not allow ESA with lowered suspension.
Otherwise , all the bells and whistles fitted. As someone here said - buy for myself and not the next owner.

Spoke to the dealer, who said an increasing number of shorter people
had been trying out the lowered setup, so he had one permanently set up as a demo.

So when my bike is up for sale in 3 years, I'm aiming at the dwarf bling rider market.:D

Bought my 09 1200 gs/a with only the comfort pack...trip computer/heated grips/led indicators and chrome can...the only bit i didn't want was the chrome can but buying what i did want seperately was dearer so c'est la vie
My reasons for not speccing the electonics/suspensions options are two fold...firstly i'm a bit off a luddite , never had it before so i don't feel i need it now...simples and secondly i always planned to keep her a long time and i felt the more gizmo's and technology the more there is to go wrong...i'm guessing in 8 to 10 years time with maybe 75k on the clock the price differential between mine and a fully loaded one is going to be peanuts...can't remember how much the two option packs were but i do remember spending the dosh on a couple of great trips to germany and spain instead!(got the free panniers too!):)

Would have been happy with comfort pack, but bike came with premium!
No way would I waste money on dynamic, not even for the ABS.

Infact I would choose a none dynamic bike by choice! :thumb

say in two years time you wanted to sell
10 very similar bikes for sale
all full BMW service history
all pretty similar condition
all had premium and dynamic packs
except yours
all very close in price
would people want to see yours first or last ????? :thumb2

I wouldn't buy a secondhand bike with the Dynamic Pack unless it was £1000 cheaper than a standard bike of the same age and condition. If they offered it me for free on a new bike I wouldn't take it.

The Dynamic pack option is £1410, there won't be that much difference in seconhand values when they're a few years old, even for them that want it. ;)

the real problem with most bikes being equipped with the dynamic pack, is that it's reducing what was a very sure market for second hand shocks of decent quality.

this may change as the dynamic bikes come out of warranty, and the owners find out how much they cost to replace. some riders may also come to their senses and realise they are nothing but a bit of pointless candy floss stuck on very sub par shocks.

one other point. what you need for a shock to adapt from say, one up/two up/luggage riding is ideally not preload adjustment, electric or otherwise. what is required is variable spring weight. why didn't they use air shocks?

Hyperpro sell lowered progressive springs for the GS/GSA with ESA units. About to fit some to my bike to lower it slightly (29" inseam), hopefully the progressive action of the springs will suit my riding style.

I think you are referring to the premium pack which includes ESA? :thumb

I think Wilbers do an ESA version of their shock?
