Anyone test-ridden the new 1250 GS yet ?

Likewise. It is very unlike BMW to have launched and shipped new 1250 GS in a such short period of time. So if they launch GSA at EICMA and start shipping in December that would be a massive change for BMW from the way they have operated in the past.

They’ve got a lot more competition now, so can’t afford to drag their heels with long launches. ;)

Gold wheels

Looking at the 1200 Rallye sat next to the 1250 Rallye in the showroom yesterday, I much preferrred the blue frame of the 1200, rather than the white frame of the 1250. The gold wheels look better in the flesh, but would be more of a pain to clean compared to black wheels.

Different frame colour options & wheel options from the factory would be a good idea, especially as most purchased bikes are built to order.

You are the Missenden Flyer and I claim my £5 :augie

TMF said he wouldn't buy one as it wasn't worth £10k to upgrade from his 63 plate gs.

Mind you, he also said it was noticeably faster than his own gs just before realising he had the 1250 set in rain mode :blast

The modes don't increase or decrease the power, just the sensitivity of the abs etc

He talks a lot of shit half the time;)

He's also a tight sod:blast

The modes don't change the power but they do 'shorten' the throttle action giving you the power quicker which is why rain mode has a more 'gentle' throttle action which is also nice in traffic.

Modes also adjust throttle response and ABS/TC Intervention.

@Pacific; I myself rode my 2017 GS-ADV for the first time again after having ridden the R9T for the last 2 month.Instantly fell in love again with that beast like the R9T but for different reasons...it's funny how different the LC and R9T boxers feel...I'm not so sure anymore if I replace my ADV with a Urban.I have to ride the 1250-ADV to see if the additional power warrants the additional 10 K to spend !
I just wished it had 145-150 hp with all the additional torque to have made the decision easier...;)
A test-ride will give the answer !
As for the colors I never cared for the Rallye or the HP-colors and prefer triple-black as my favorite color.BMW's have to be black...:thumby:
But white is more practical as showing no dust or scratches...
Look forward to EICMA so see what they have done to the new 1250ADV,1250R and 1250RS as well - not to forget the all new S1000RR !
Maybe next year R1250XR or R1250S to make the family complete...:thumby:
Exciting times...

It’s not worth 10K to me.
I’d rather put the money into a different bike and I’m looking forward to finding out what KTM has done with the production version of the 790 Adventure R.

Pacific fair enough even if GS or 790 KTM completely different bikes.
Did you take the 1250 all the way up to 8000 rpm and if how would you rate the difference...Finally enough or still lacking and wanting 15 hp more ? I guess I love my ADV but want a little more go in the middle and a little more pull on top to make the power difference more prominent as it is now between the 1200 TC and LC boxers...
If your Rally has the sports-suspension how was the quickness/ease of steering compared to the 1250 ?

I did a couple of 6th gear full-throttle roll-ons (on a private road of course) and the 1250 pulled well. Not sure what the revs were, I backed-off at 120mph and there was plenty left. It didn’t feel breathless like the old boxer and felt faster than the current LC. You’ll have to try it to decide if it’s enough.

As for the suspension, my Rallye Sport is an ex-ORS bike and as such has the bog-standard suspension. That’s the one thing I would like to change. Plus my bike is on knobbly tyres so the 1250 felt quicker to steer than my bike but that’s not a good comparison. Perhaps someone else can comment.

Thanks Pacific for the info - plenty left at 120 sounds good because at that point the 1200LC seems to run out of steam on the way to 135 tops...on the ADV with bags.Like you said only a test-ride will give the final answer if the additional steam is enough to warrant the additional 10 grand to trade up.

I don't think GS type bikes are Adventure bikes like the ads want you to believe as there is really no adventure left on this planet...These bikes are really ROAD bikes what sport-tourers used to be as todays superbikes really make only sense and can be ridden to their potential on race-tracks.
So 150 mph top-speed and 0-125 in 10 seconds or less should be not too far off to keep things interesting...;)
Of course the 1% who live up to the hype and go on the once a lifetime trip to Ushuaia could care less...or ride a slow and boring Afreeka-Tween...:D
To me a GS is a comfortable sport-bike for the road !
And obviously others too otherwise we would not see so many GS 17" front-wheel conversions or GS with cast instead of spoke wheels...

Precisely. It always bemuses me to hear all these pub-hero types talking about 160mph performance when most of the time you can't use more than half that on the roads safely, or legally not to mention it being a pretty pointless thing to thrash a bike like the big boxer as if it were an out an out sports bike. It isn't...never was and never will be. It is what it is, a great all round capable machine with more than enough go for 90% of riders. If you want 160mph capability then a trip to Nurburgring or some track days are the best way to do that.....safely...on a proper sports bike...or go buy a KTM 1290 (but forget touring in quite as much comfort or with as much stability 2-up with luggage if you do). Adventure is a personal thing. To some, world travel ticks the boxes. To me (and I suspect a majority of UK riders) a European tour once in a while and regular long rides to places in the UK be that the Lake District, Snowdonia or the Scottish Highlands all tick my box as being adventures because there are still a lot of places within the UK I'd like to explore or return to, preferably on two wheels in glorious sunshine! (doesn't happen much does that Lol).

Even if the GSA had 200bhp and 189 mph top speed.... how would you stop all that weight?

Be careful what you wish for :D
