Anyone test-ridden the new 1250 GS yet ?

The new R1250GS Adventure is in Rybrook Wolverhampton today, they were setting it up in the showroom window.

Have to say it does look nice... :D

stick,i went from a 16 plate to 68 plate 1200 and the difference was huge the newer bike is better in all respects by a large margin,im sure the 1250 is good but remember you have jumped a long way in gs development so no wonder you are very impressed. This is why i think people with later 1200 bikes arnt so impessed and gagging to change.

I said to my friend today.... the new R1250 is a no-brainer if you just want a new bike and spending the money isn't an issue.

But if you've already got a 2017 upwards, with the new gearbox, Shift Assist Pro, TFT, Hill Start Assist.... the 1250 engine isn't enough on it's own to warrant the upgrade cost. It just isn't.

R1200 owners, unless it's old and knackered, just keep what you've got and enjoy it some more... :D

After the demo we had a long discussion, and pauses for thought on whether he should buy the new R1250GS Adventure.

Or keep his current 2014 R1200GS Adventure and buy new Africa Twin Adventure Sport, as a second bike... for a lot less cash.

But in my opinion, his 2014 GSA has way more features over a brand new HATAS, and he would be best placed to keep it as the second 'hack' bike. To mess about with, bad weather, home servicing, off-road adventuring etc.

Then buy a new R1250GSA which will keep him up to date for the next 5 years or so as his main bike with all the new tech.

Switching between bikes would be easy and always got a spare if circumstances need it.

If he ends up not using the 2014 bike, just sell it privately at some point in the summer months. He'll get more money for it anyways.

My July 17 1200 was good but my 1250 is better

I think the engine is much quieter and smoother and I love the improved hill hold

The shift assist pro down shifts aren’t perfect but up shifts are improved

I also love the tft just wish it was easier to reset the trip

Personally I think the blue one looking the best out of three new colours available, but I hate those gold wheels.
Bronze coloured one at NEC looked like a sparkly horse shit :barf.
I’m not a big fan of mate colour finishes either. :barf

When will that happen? Perhaps it’ll be a PHEV by the time we get to see another Triple Black! :rob

and I love the improved hill hold

The hill hold is great but almost fell the first couple of times I used it downhill: you are used to start moving as soon as you release the brakes on a descent and when that doesn´t happens you just loose balance :blast

But surely you can still pull the brake lever and manually release Hill Hold.

That must be easier downhill surely?

I am beginning to like the grey one most of all. I prefer the gold callipers on the other two models though.
I figured out the reason I don’t like the gold wheels (apart from them looking worse than the gold wheels when they are anything other sparkling clean). The gold makes the rear wheel look really small. Flick between the images on the configurator on the website of the GSA with black wheels and with gold wheels - the rear wheel in gold looks tiny.

I have posted before that my old 16 TB was great , super smooth box , clutch , great suspension . The difference for me is the engine as the 16 was always lacking for me , this bike is not now. Okay it’s got a TFT screen , self levelling suspension , which took a bit of getting used to but in all honesty is not a huge leap forward .
The engine , extra torque is the leap , and it’s a good one . My 300 mile ride was done with another GS and this time it was run in , and the other rider still commented how quick it was and how he was ringing the neck on his and still not catching , in fact loosing considerable ground , okay it was wet and shitty roads but we both are experienced riders and his comments again were , night and day

you had a very good old bike then which is why im surprised that you are raving so much about the new one ,but hey enjoy and perhaps i will not be so quick to go and test a 1250 just in case i like it :D

I think I would, if I’d just dropped £6k or whatever it was to change ;)
