Anyone travelling alone to Morocco next April or may 2009

hi cormick.seems there's a lot of guys heading(or thinking of) to morocco in april-ish?
doing a sponsored ride from yorks to casa around the same time.did S of France last year,but that's my extent of long (laff) distance stuff. if you want to banter,or any of the other guys thinking the same,i'm ok....doing it solo at mo...tyke
 
Well for me at least the trip is Back on :thumb

Managed to sort out some bike problems " 1 too many " :rob apparently

I am going early April ( 5th possibly ) on the Plymouth to Santander ferry, then 2 days through Spain and onto Morocco, 7 days around Morocco and then back again.

I will be camping for most of the trip unless a nice Hotel reveals itself. Having done a couple of long trips before I will be following a pre planned route which will be open to change at any point depending on any number of things.

I will be stopping anywhere on the route no plans made re hotels etc in Morocco. As per other trips I will be self sufficient taking my own food etc..

I will not be taking any challenging pistes ( on purpose ), will be a mix of Road and Piste probably 60/40 or 70/30.

I Will be making a film of the Morocco sections in particular which may mean stopping to set up cameras etc.. Thought I should mention it as its not everyones cup of tea stopping starting going back to collect the gear etc, etc.. :augie

Obviously a lot has changed since this thread began but if any like minded traveller wants to join me then PM me if you like.

We will definately be in Morocco around the same time - we leave Zurich on the 28th March - returning 2nd May.

We, however, will be in 4 wheels - a 1989 BMW 525 - on Swiss number plates. We won't be venturing along too many questionable roads - although we will give it a go :thumb :eek:
 
hi farmboy........i may be a little ahead of you,due to committments (hol)
am looking at setting off from hull to dover/calais last week in march,weather dependant,but want to be in france pre easter w/end riot!!...will use my compass on bars that just points 'SOUTH' !!...will take 2,3 days thru france,same in spain,and 4,5 around maroc,then home...will stop when hungry/thirsty,tired/lost and use b&b's.....doing the ride firstly for fun,secondly for save the children funds.i aint a tree hugger or chariddy basher,just thought if i'm doing miles, like to help someone. i'll be the one looking like a 2 wheel mobile advertising hoarding!!!.........with a hull city pennant!......lol.........hope to see yer around.keep upto date eh?..........tyke
 
Sounds like a good trip,

Never really thought of doing trips for Charity and have no idea how to go about it.

Might be an idea though even if its only a few hundred, Will keep an eye out for you on the road.

I am not far from you myself Near Scarborough shame we are not going the same time
 
was at scarboro other week for a chip buttie and hot tea at the eateries at the bend at foot of 'castle'. nice stop to get warmth back in the body...yeah,maybe see you all on the way back.........tyke

I'm doing the ferry from Plymouth on the Sunday the 5th April, but plans have changed as I need to be back before the school term starts, so returning on the 15th.

I have pre-booked a formula 1 hotel south of Madrid for the 6th, and hope to make it to Morocco the next day, camping at Chefchaouen. from there not 100%, but will be a combination of hotels and Camping.

if it's too far for one day, i'll camp over just outside Algeciras, and them make the trip over.

May see you on the boat.
 
we will be in hotels and B&Bs for the duration - this is my paid for leisure time you know - not getting paid as well!!!

I was thinking of going for the getting sponsors for each KM the car makes without breaking down - we are scheduled to cover just over 8000km in 5 weeks :D
 
Work Sorted Today

Leave booked today from the 4th April - 25th April so its gonna happen between them dates.

Looking at either 5th - 20th or 5th - 23rd :D which will allow for a nice leisurely time on the Pistes.

Still Looking for one maybe two others to join me - it will be a trip for fully laden Bikes so NO major Intentional Offroading involved, I want to keep my Nice White Bike in one piece.
 
We leave on the Plymouth ferry on the 5th April and get the Santander ferry coming back on the 7th May.

Still planning a (rough) route, but can't wait.

i've spoke to Farmboy about driving togheter but i will not have that much time, i was thnking to leave on 5th and return on 15th as well - are you looking for a company??

More than happy to meet up and do a bit of riding together. I'm bringing my partner along, who doesn't fancy 10 days looking at the back of my helmet, so need to do a bit of site seeing. also probably very little piste as i'm not too sure about doing this two up. Would like to make it down to the Sahara but this maybe a bit too much to bit off.

The intent is to only plan 1 day ahead and see where things take us.

the only commitments i have are the times out and back, and the hotels south of Madrid, which is quite reasonable, as last year I paid 30 euros for two bike and 1 tent in south Spain.

Please let me know your thought's? seems like a good few people are planning similar dates, so should be good.

In case anyone can't make the dates of your trip but still wants to get down to Morocco this Easter, I have a couple of places left on Moto Morocco's April trip , both for riding down to Spain to meet us or for us taking your bike down on the big trailer so you don't have to do the slog across Europe :thumb2

got my jabs sorted out for next week, getting them all for free apart form the Rabies which is over £100 :eek:

Might give that one a miss.

dont reckon i can make the ferry in one hit from my house, its over 400 miles and the ferry leaves at 1600hrs so I need to look for somewhere around Stratford Upon Avon, Stroud area to stay for a night :rolleyes: DOnt fancy geting my tent soaking wet through on night 1 though
