After mucho googling I have seen mixd reviews on most aftermarket screens with few being rated as a great improvement with the exception of a couple of people raving about Madstad.

Anyone tried one of these?

Looks like you get a screen plus some new mounts, not sure how easy it is to fit, or if it is all that sturdy, but has a lot of adjustability with up down and tilt - £200 so not a cheap gamble.

They claim it works better because it sits a bit forward and allows air to get behind the screen to reduce the vacuum that causes buffeting.

I looked ... for about 30 seconds, and immediately discounted it because it looks fecking ugly ... !!

So was the Givi Airflow I had on my Yamaha and GS - but they both worked very well.

Might try the Givi Touring Screen as it is pretty cheap, seems like most larger screens are a bit better but not great, may as well get a cheap one - but will talk to dealer about the SA screen cost.

The Yanks also go on about spacing the screen out about an inch, not sure if they use some sort of kit or lash up some sort of homemade Frankenspacers - back to Fugly I think.

You need to leave you GS /S10 head behind man.

KTMs are all about performance and style and their riders are all hard mean bastard bikers that laugh in the face of a little buffeting.

We don't use top boxes either. No KTM rider uses a top box...........

F**k, can I sue the dealer for making me look a twat by flogging me a top box?

Might explain why the side cases have KTM on them but the top box is unbranded.

I suppose the comfy seat is also a no-no

Correct ..! Man up and don't complain about the firm seat ... !

You can use the optional spacers supplied for the SA to space out the SA screen on an 1190. I have the part numbers somewhere.

the SA adaptors raise the screen an inch or two, as well as space it out. the looks suit an 1190 fitted with a top box.

bikes with no top box should use the R screen IMO :D

Psssssssssssst.................this is just between you and I Paul, don't tell a soul............

I just said that to keep on the right side of 'Man Bag Melch'; he has a thing about top boxes............. I actually use mine (KTM bread bin) quite a lot as it's dead handy, can't say it bothers me either.

Like I said though, this is between you and I, mum's the word :rob

Thanks to all.

I am surprised how inexpensive the SA screen is, I assume this would give the best of both worlds with a bigger screen and some room for air to be drawn under it to reduce the vacuum induced buffeting.

Will have a chat with the dealer and maybe get one chucked on during the first service.

I am also surprised the bike has a comfy seat option when the buyers are all so tough, probably be more profitable to fit the comfy seat and offer the un-comfy one as an optional extra.

Anyway, all thoughts of £200 for an ugly Madstad have been banished, top box will stay - but it is one of those metal ones so I can tell people about how I plan to cross deserts on the bike - plus will need it to carry the new top end or two if I did ride it across a desert - starting to make lugging a few FD's around on the GS look far easier.

if you buy the screen from Bikers Jersey you can save the VAT as well.

the postage probably adds 10% though.

i found the SA screen + adaptors works quite well for me, but makes me think i'm riding a tourer. i think i'll hang on to it for long wet trips though.

i have a KTM Touring screen lying around here that i'll sell for 1/2 list if anyone's interested. they look cack and don't work very well, but YMMV? :nenau

I heard that! Don't you EVER critiicise my special collection of 'shoulder' bags again. I can't believe you let me ride your bike knowing full well that a top box gets regularly used on it. I'm going for a shower...I feel durty!!!!!

(This explains my sudden unexplained compulsion to look at 'Hush Puppies' and comfy slacks online. I hope you're proud of yourself!)

Bollox :(

Who told ya?? That was just between me and Paul and I know he's good for his word so it had to be somebody else.............

It was The Holly Spirit wasn't it? It had to be him. He's jealous of us KTM boys and will stop at nothing to tear us apart, the bastard.

Don't let him win Melch my man. Divide and rule, that's what he's playing at! Well it's not going to work. I won't let him, no! I'll even pretend to like Man Bags if that helps?

Please. Please still be my friend :)

Man bag? that looks like a Ball Bag...

Well it might look like your ball bag Twiz, thankfully, I can say it doesn't look anything like mine ...

If it means we'll still be friends I'll do anything you ask :bounce1

Sadly, although I looked and looked and looked I don't have that particular bag to hand, however, I found something very similar and the Lovely Amanda was happy to provide photographic proof.

I hope you approve :bounce1
