Anyone tried this.

I know £40 squid seems a lot butI certainly hav'nt used all of the paint there is plenty left for some other bits too. I think trying to find the correct pannel and then in exactly the right colour could be difficult. Paints are very expensive these days and these metalics even more so as on top of the primer there is the base coat, colour and then laquer, which is like liquid gold.
god knows whaat a full respray would cost, I'm doing a bit at a time:augie

After seeing what a fantastic job you made must admit i am tempted to have a go........and you are right a full respray would cost a fortune...for my tank i am contemplating buying one of those bagalux tank bags in red which are like £90.00 a pop.
Came to terms with the fact BEFORE i bought the bike that is was going to be a "money pit" lol

This is a great thread especially as i have a right hand panel that also needs the same treatment, but £40.00 for the spray paint...ouch....think will try and look for a 2nd hand panel that is already the right colour first b4 buying the paint.

The beauty of a good paint shop is that they will colour match the paint to your existing paint which over time will have faded. As mentoned earlier my K1 glove box lid colour perfectly matches the rest of the bike due to expert colour matching by the shop. You'd be lucky to find a S/H panel that you were happy with IMO.

Now after having some nice comments from you guys, I carried on to lay the pinstriping. The bikes are originally done freehand which shows the quality that they were. I decided noit to try this as I remember making a right dogs of the oil tank on an old Norton I once had. so I used a tape and masked it up. painted the lines with Humbrol, whipped the tape off, hey presto, piece of piss. now I'll laquer over the lot to seal it all in:blast. BIG mistake... the stripes just frazzled. Shit.... tried rubbing down and touching in but no joy so decided to start again.
wont bore you with the process again as it was the same except that I was more carefull to ket the colour match as perfect as I could. I also sent away for some tape which carries two 2.38mm spaces for the lines with the same distance between. I reconed this was about right, being hand drawn the lines are not perfectly even anyway. I decided to paint then laquer and then just to put the stipes on on top which seems to be what BM have done.
lastly I applied the transfer and as you can see from the pic, I dont think I could have got it any better.
Last pic shows the next bit, a crack on the lower fairing panel that has just had some colour put on to cover up the repair. I may have to redo the whole panel but I recon I can do it now:augie

Nice job and looks like a perfect match. Tried my hand at painting before and best left for those with the skills and me with eating loads of meat and call a pasty a pie :D

Looking good Tony, you don't say if you've been for a ride out but of cause you do know that now you have the correct transfer on both sides and she's all colour matched the balance is going to be just perfect, she's going to go sooooooo... much better :D

You know you must have something there Geoff. I had a great ride today and she was definately much better balanced, really handles very well. now If I clean the left side engine case with the T euro like I did with the right side, it might make the engine run even smoother, I'll give it a go... Thanks:thumb

Humbrol = Enamel. Enamel is happy to be applied over almost any other paint but doesn't like anything but enamel on itself.

It's a good way to achieve that crackle-finish effect though. :D

Bastard bastard bastard bastard bastard, if you know what I mean,: please dont post any more pics of this bike please:)
