Anyone use Ankle high MX Boots??

Jeez.. pair of doom mongers..

They'll be great, right up until you take a whack on the shin :P

Not for me thanks, can feel my leg breaking just looking at them. :D

I've a pair of these HG boots..don't rate them for ankle protection (twisted ankle putting foot down to when front end stepped out).
Also have a pair of AlpineStars Tech 3, but I ain't gonna wear them to the office or on hot days .. They're for offroadin.
So what ye recommend (only 7 weeks to chrimbo)?

If sir is considering wearing a par of those off Ebay, sir might as well order THESE at the same time, just to be fully prepared.

Don't be a silly arse :nono

I have worn these (fox f3)

with one of these (touratech adjustable gear lever)

For the last 12 months and works great and wouldn't swap it for anything!! :thumb2

Im an offroader from bygone days and used to be sponsored by T&MX and my roots always make me put on some offroad boots. MX Boots without the adjustable gear lever are almost impossible............the pair together is great as the adjustable gear lever from tt is just that .........adjustable!!

And as for safety..........my lower leg is well protected :thumb

HG do a very good own brand version of that sort thing. Had mine for a years or so. I like them

If a 250 kg drops on you leg, two slabs of knee high leather are hardly going to be the walls of invincibility, are they ....

And lorica even less so ....

And would sir care to tell me just what would protect your lower leg from 250kg of impact!!!

Would sir care to elaborate?
The doom mongers providing feck all helpful info:rob

Maybe it's the combination of short boots and MX styling that has us all confused :nenau

If you only want them for road use then you should have said, we all appear to have assumed you were intending to off road using these things and were simply trying to persuade you it wasn't a good idea.

If you don't want advice then don't ask in future, or at least have the decency to explain what iy is you want to know :(

Padge, I have a pair of the Hein Gerrick ones which are very similar and they are superb. Granted they won't offer the same protection as my Tech3 boots but for general riding and easier trails I am more than pleased with them - comfy as anything and you can even walk more than 50 yards in them too.;)

Should haev elaborated on the initial post. Road use only. Hot days, and trips to d'office. The MX Style is coz I can't find anything with decent ankle protection and these seem to fit the bill for a lot less than the Alpinestars

Had a look a the HG ones, they seemed to be more style orientated. The Alpine Stars Tech2 look almost identical to these Thor boots, but the Tech2 are quite a bit pricier than I can get em in the local MX shop plus I don't find the AlpineStars Tech 3 a great boot. Protection is perfect, but I wouldn't recommend due to crap buckles and comfort around the toes.

Strangly never needed the adjustable gear lever with my Tech3s

The pic i posted is of Fox F3 boots and they are very chunky, no way could I get my toe under the original gear lever hence my fitting the adjustable tt one

Biker

Having always worn MX boots (regardles of type of bike) all I've ever done is adjust the standard lever - and that's only rarely as more often than not I haven't found it necesery. MX boots have a lip on the sole and it's the lip that I use to change up, not the toe of the boot.

I thought everybody did that :nenau

I've got a pair of Sidi Crossfires for offroad and a pair of Daytona Trans Open GTX for the BM.

I'm with Fanum, dont be an arse. what value do you put on your legs?

My Daytonas have two or three really big scares that I picked up after a couple of days riding with them... unlike the Sidi's they dont have any plastic shin protection so the leather takes the full hit of whatever it encounters. To this day I dont know what I hit and I didnt feel the impact at the time, but if I'd have been wearing those ebay boots, I'm pretty sure it would have opened my leg up...

2 or 3 scares in a few days (did you mean scars or scares..don't know what's more worring) Jaysus..and you're worried about my low cut boots???

The Daytona Trans Open GTX seem to offer the same ankle protection as a pair of bedroom slippers though.

So I now have my solution.. Thanks to all who've suggested the Tech2 and Hein Gericke.. Seems the way to go.
I'll stick a pair of shin guards in my socks to appease the doom mongers
