Aprilia Caponord 1200- who owns one?

I have been keen to ride /own one for a while and have followed pricing for the last 4 years. Seems to hold it's value really well. Gets great reviews re ADD suspension and sound. Comfort is ergonomically better/close to GS territory. How come so few are ever for sale? Did it not sell? Anyone have one?

It never sold in big numbers here despite good reviews. I think Aprilia were still suffering from the legacy of appalling reliability and parts availability in the time it was sold new. Piaggio have improved but still aren't that good. You do need a good dealer such as A&D who deal direct with Piaggio rather than via the distributor MotoGB. They might make an effort to source parts and have some knowledge about the model due to many years with the brand.
Can the Sachs suspension be serviced by 3rd parties like the BMW stuff?

A pal had a 64 plate. He liked it rather loved it. Took some time sorting the suspension but when that was set up right, it rode well. He is back on a GS now. Most definitely a road bike dressed as an adv bike

I had one quite a few years ago, I got it from my mate in exchange for a car… seemed a fair deal to me. He’d really rated it, but it was quite a tall bike and he’s vertically challenged so it wasn’t a great combination for him.
Superb engine, great handling, good fuel consumption, and comfortable. Lots of really quality bits like a stainless exhaust, and the coolant level was a whole lot easier to check than on my RT. The electrics were the only dubious part, with the coils being particularly suspect.
I really liked it, but dealer network was almost non-existent, and it was quicker to buy bits from the US than the UK.

I had a 1000 a few years ago. As above lovely bike reliable comfortable BUT parts availability and no dealer didn’t encourage me to keep it. Some parts were very expensive. JJH

Friend of a friend has had one since hew (2013) and we met up with them in Austria when touring. A couple of issues with mapping on it early on it but long since sorted.
Few mentions of standard panniers being melted by aftermarket pipes BUT other than that he has had no real issues and other bikes have come and gone but he still has the Caponord and toured on it rwo up on a number of occasions
It is not a true Adventure bike with true offroad capability , as mentioned it is a road bike with offroad styling and no doubt it would be fragile offroad due to the plastics.
None the worse for it as how many large capacity Advenure bikes actually go off road and he loves the standard electronic suspension saying it is better than the Ohlins set ups on the 3 Mille R Factories he has owned
Brother in law owned a 1000 Caponord for a while and it was the same ,a really good road / touring bike but a complete "donk" off the tarmac, his got stuck in my paddock getting it out of the shed

One of my buds has had 2 of these ,, the earlier one drank fuel like a Saturn 5 rocket ,,, but the second later model one was a good bike

I had a 1000 one for about 6 weeks. Won it in an Ebay auction for 1500 quid. Loved it but couldn't get software updated and alarm kept going off etc. Sold it. I'm more after a 2016 one, maybe, possibly, if i can get my head around selling my R
