I've forgotten the proper name for it, the really warm, black/white chequered neck warmer scarf arabian thingy that they used to advertise in the back of bike mags.

What's it called?

I thought they were called a Sheemah (spelling?).
Got both mine from Army/Navy type stores.

Hmmm...Sheemagh does ring bells but apart from one entry from a Brit, it doesn't pop up easily in Google.

there appear to be many names for them...this one is Saudi;

This Ghutra or Smagh is a Saudi common style made of 100% cotton. The ghutra is folded on a diagonal to form a triangle and placed with the fold in front. Comes with beautiful red embroidery. The Ghutra is usually worn with Igal and Tagiyah to form one complete head cover set.

It depends what part of the Middle East you are talking about... all very complicated. I would agree that it is know over there as a kaffiyeh.

I lived in the Middle East for two years and that's what I called them but I have heard other names too.

Tea Towel :D

used to be common mid-80's in Devon

Definately a Shemag, not sure of the spelling though!

Just about

The least useful cold weather motorcycling accessory invented, ever.

Right up there alongside a table cloth from Oxfam.
