I like arai helmets, they fit my arai shaped head, I'd noticed in a brochure the 'new' TOUR-X and was wondering what folk think about them. I quite fancy a replacement lid and the Tour-X is on the list of possible suspects to replace my quantum. Any opinions??

Bloody brilliant. Top helmet. Buy one.

Do a search on this site and see my exact same post from a few months back with lots of opinions.

Blimey I'll second this one as well!!!

Are we brothers and no one has told us?????

Fantastic helmet and once you have bought one you will never ride with a normal full face again.

I'll have to stop being lazy and do a search before I post 'new' questions!:idea thanks for the info though, and its nice to hear that the peak is ok at real-world speeds! I'll have a look see at the Scottish Bike show next weekend hopefully?!

2004 model in Motard Black. Go on. You know it makes sense!

Tour X

I too have an 'Arai Head' . Is there a cure?

Comfortable helmet, though not as quiet as a Quantum. In the wet tends to get rain running down inside of visor.

The peak is great as it reduces turbulance and wind noise - Wunderlich screen.

The only real problem I found was when riding with photosensitive glasses, the peak stops them darkening as your face is in shadow.
This became a real problem in Morocco when my eyes suffered from ultra violet glare off the sand. Cured with a pair of ordinary sunglasses.

Buy one.

They look good.
But, very noisy, good ear plugs essential.
Not as stable as conventional (non peaked) lids. Great for low speed/town work but wouldn't advise for long distances.

Bargain at £145....

Too expensive.....but they look the dogs bollox
I've just got back from a weeks holiday in Japan and treated myself to the new Arai Tour-cross Motard. I couldn't believe how cheap they were compared to over here. I only paid £145 and bought a black visor for £20 as well. The new Tour-cross Motard is identical to the normal tourcross except a super mettalic flish in Black/Silver with an additional air vent on the top.

I also noticed that Shoei were selling one very very similar called the "Hornet" but that came in at around £200. I'm sure they will also be on sale here soon.

I also noticed the latest XR250R came in at £2500 and looks absolutely superb. year old examples were selling at £1400-£1600..............I had to turn away.

HAve Fun

I have owned one now for about 4 months.

What can I say,

Plus side: very comfortable even after all day in the saddle. Has terrific vision almost like wearing an open face, peripheral especially. Good space around the ears which accepts earphones easily without cramping the ears at all. All lining removable for cleaning. Visor can be removed for use with goggles.

Down Side: Have found it mist’s quite badly, especially if you have a screen and the chin bar is generally below it. Get a bit of buffeting caused by the peak especially when looking to side or behind. (more so than I have experienced with a moto x helmet). Removing the visor for cleaning is a pain in the ass. To many screws (which can snap off quite easily ask Arai) they seem to be a dead length for the hole, just asking to be sheared off, have shortened mine, no problems since (said with crossed fingers).

If you have rain on the visor you can get quite a lot of reflected glare from oncoming lights etc. I think this might be due to the angle of the visor where it has to reach out further to the chin bar.

General: Doesn’t quite get there as a moto x or a road helmet (shame really), expensive. As a overall rating I would give it 6-7 out of ten. Nice try the next model should be better. But it dose look the dog's even better with a black visor.

I take the peak off mine for long journeys. Looks a bit like a Simpson. You need the extra side pod bits from Arai for this. Top lid.

No willpower whatsoever!!

Called into Hein Gerricke today for a browse, as you do!.......look what I came out with, could'nt resist..........

Hope the helmets as good as ppl have said.....................

Oi - you've nicked my helmet.

As someone mentioned earlier up the thread, the peripheral vision is particularly good. I didn't realise till it was mentioned, but the eye-hole is particularly wide so you dont need to turn your head so much.

Also, I've found mine pretty mist-free. There is a setting for the chin vent where you have the outer vent open, but the inner one closed. This diverts air up the holes on the inside of the upper edge of the lower edge of the see-through hole bit, which de-mists things nicely. I didn't realise you could set it like this until I read the instructions about 3 weeks after I bought it.
