I'm thinking about getting an Arai Tour X, but I have a worry.
If you are riding at speed does the peak on the lid not cause your head to be ripped back? I would have though it would be OK, but my mate said he used to ride with a crosser style lid, and over a ton was a real problem.

Cheers

It's not too bad. The peak can get caught a bit in gusts and crosswinds but I haven't had any trouble wearing it up to a genuine 120 mph.

Worse for me was the fact that the peak vibrated quite badly and that resulted in a very loud drumming in my ears which made my eyeballs vibrate.....honestly. I had to be quite inventive to get round that problem. Other people have had the same problem but some have no problems at all.

Be warned that it's not a particularly good winter helmet, unless you fit an Oxford Huff which transforms it.

I mostly wear an MX lid with a peak nowadays...Bell Moto6 ....and have no bother at speed - as long as I tilt my head down ever so slightly,so in effect the airflow off my screen hits the top of the peak and flows over the helmet.

I shudder to think what would happen if I looked up at the sky at any high speed.......

Comfort, noise, buffeting and adverse effects due to the peak will vary from person to person depending on their height, screen height and screen position.

As for speeds over a ton.....do it too often in the UK and helmet comfort won`t be an issue ... unless you want to talk about or read about it while waiting for your lift/taxi/bus...

Hi

I have got a tour x and they are a great lid, when traveling at speed the peak does flex and you can feel some buffering, but a good set of torbers will sort it out. :) :)

As a word of warning have a spare lid because when i took my gsa in for a service they gave me a 1200rs... tyring to keep my head on my shoulders was a problem at 130mph and the peak was flexing all over the place.

I must have looked a right to$$er on the rs with a mx lid on.. :tosser :tosser

Oh well you learn by your mistakes.... :thumb :thumb :thumb

Keep the kit to use the helmet without the peak in a pocket, only takes a few minutes to fit....same procedure as changing visors,no probs. :beerjug:

Good lid the peak is vented where it meets the helmet allowing decent airflow most MX helmets are a flush fit. Your dealer should let you try one before you buy mine did.

Test riding a K1200 I did something a bit like that at a speed I don't want to admit to............. it ripped the fuggin' visor off on one side (the plastic screws were pulled out). Scared the proverbial out of me to say the least

Normal riding I find the visor fine on short bursts of high speed riding but take it off when sustained three figure speeds are on the cards (on the continent of course :D )

It pulls your head back :D been there done it. But not a problem if you have it pointing down slightly or straight ahead, just don't look up at 110mph to look at the helicotor above. :mmmm

i wear MX Helmet all the time, like the peak in summer (stops blinding from the sun) and in winter (stop the rain ... most of it) and with Goggles, they never steam up

But... bit noisy (so wear ear plugs), cold face in winter (so wear a mask) , rain hurts (again wear a mask) and perifrial vision reduced.

But good fun, light and cheap, unless you have one of those with a visor and a peak..... what they called?? ;)
