Everywhere I dont really want to be...
Hi,

Ive just ordered a set of ARD cases from Redcap (Good guy to deal with BTW), and they are winging their way over here as we speak.

In the mean time I must shorten the Rear indicator stalks. Im not one for welding, and dont fancy having electrical problems with 3rd party items (time is short..if it aint ready in 10 days, Ill be speaking like a Tenor ! :eek)

Has anyone tried the Metal mule rear indicator shortening stalk kits with ARD cases - Maybe this would be my best "easy" option...

Thanks...again...

Not tried them with ARD cases, but they work a treat with TT Zegas.

about to try a pair of 1100 front indicator stems LIA064484 from Motorworks with my Ardcases, I have a pair of cheap small indicators fitted at present but want to use the clear lenses.
I'll be fitting them tonight and I'll take some photos.

I bought a dirt cheap pair of ickle LED blingicators to go on the back of my GS as my TT cases need short indicators. They look a bit daft on a 1999 R1150GS and I suffer slightly from 'over-wink' but WTF :)

It's quite an easy job to shorten the standard indicator stalks yourself.

Remove the base of the indicator stalk marked here in red.

And the indicators will fit in nicely without rubbing on the panniers.

This picture which I have linked from the Caja Sahel website shows the modification a bit more clearly.

i did this

a simple metal bracket fixed underneath the rear luggage carrier, i thought if the inds were so close together, from the rear at a diagonal angle you may not be able to see your indications, hence like this..made it i 15mins, extended the wires and voila.

Just in the interest of safety , why would you hide your indicators ?

Relocate them , BE SEEN BE SAFE

if someone doesnt see your indicators, then wallop, wtf?

I woulda thought it was a Question that would ave been of paramount importance , to all ,incl the Pannier makers .
But anyways ,, suffice to say if you buy a premium Pannier set you get a
Premium Product , From a Company that are constantly evolving and
always use thier own products .

if someone doesnt see your indicators, then wallop, wtf?

Mine pass all legal requirements, and are visable from less than 40 degrees,so if you're indicating, and someone doesn't see you,it's because you are turning into the side of them,or alongside them already.

Everything else on the market is a copy of mine, nice and safely tucked away, and still visable. You just don't need any more junk hung on your bike!

twinkycators

I just find it amazing that people fit little teeny twinkly fairy light indicators, putting themselves at a higher risk, just cos it looks cool.
Then some ol fart stuffs them up the arse, cos their already poor eyesight, didnt see the teeny weeny twinky cators, and then its the old farts fault cos he didnt see your indications.
And before you say it, they shouldnt be on the road, yes youre right they shouldnt be, but until we get a ten yearly driving/health/sight test, its gonna happen.
But lets work out who the loser is here, you with a kia pride embedded in your ring piece, or the car driver without a scratch.
Do the math, be seen be safe.:rob

Got my indicator stem off... so in Aidan's picture, is the idea to cut through the black stem, as the threaded end continues in about an inch, leaving the metal bit which is attached to the threaded end intact to clamp inside the indicator body?

Hope that makes sense :augie

make sure you get this bit right..

i nobbed up a indicator trying to do this, someone needs post some step by step piccys, its cheaper, another indicator is £22.

That's the way I see it going if I attempted it ;) Decided to get some shorter ones without hacking mine about :thumb

I assumed it would be a piece of cake, and luckily had a broken indicator lying around that I could sacrifice. But after removing the rubber stem, I was left with these two bits :blast Can't see how the one the threaded part is ever going to fit with such hex-shaped end :nenau I guess the shape of these thingies must have changed?

Now I'm opting to extend them, I like to maintain the visibility :thumb2

i did this

i put the indicators on a bracket under the rear rack, extended the wiring, job done, and nice and visible.
