Ardennes 10 July - 13 July

I thought we had agreed to travel a la French Motard and go in shorts, vest and flip flops? The only protection needed is factor 50 in this weather.
On a more serious note did anyone remember to book the breakfast table on the shuttle or are we eating in the dining carriage as always?

Lloyd please refrain this time from introducing yourself to random strangers on the train and thanking them for joining us! You can be soooo embarrassing.

:dabone

I seem to remember you took them into the fold first and left me to go in for sloppy seconds again :rob

I have sorted a waitress service on the train for you.

Actually, I thought they were with us aswell:toungincheek

Next time I am going to ask people if they are a "Tosser" first before I enter into a conversation with them.:D

David.

Well, I'm on holiday.

Weather got progressively hotter as I travelled further east/south. M25 was an utter **** but missed J9-11 by cutting through Bagshot.

I'm in Hythe, refreshed with 2 pints of Bombardier in the Hop Pole - may return for more later after getting some food.

This is the view from my hotel attic. Yes, the room is split on 2 levels with the bathroom and a sitting room upstairs in the attic. The bedroom overlooks the car park, so best of both worlds. France is over there somewhere...

UPDATE - DAY1!!

To add a bit of spice I have amended day's 1 route.

I was not particulary happy that the route I had created had us apparently exiting a motorway via a fuel station. I had a quick look on Google Earth, whilst it looked OK'ish it was not worth a chance.

Rather than risk a Garmin glitch, I have done what I should have done in the first place, and taken us off the A26 at junction 9.

New route attached.

To amend for my late sins I have done the full day one route out in Excel, too.

Cheers, Richard

====

Wessie has of course stolen a march on us and is now sunning himself sur la cote du sud....

....I meanwhile have got to start getting organised, following a ludicrous hour or more on the phone to AA European Breakdown. To cut a looooong story short, they had never sent me my renewal papers... but I had paid for it.... No trace on their records. Whilst they hunted, AA customer services (ha, bloody, ha) SHUT!!

So, I was no further forward....

The sales office was still open, but they could not access current customer files....

....So to find out what my policy number was I was forced to call AA Emergency in France and pretended that I had broken down..... :augie

After a bit of hunting they managed to call me back.... with my policy number.... Oh happy day, oh happy day....

Heaven, it seems, really does help those who help themselves.

Glad I checked before I went to bed!

Anyway I am struggling with what to pack? The panniers on the Superslab is so small and funny shaped that I am stumped!

I am also not sure whether I should be wearing my trendy white jacket with jeans or go the sensible goretex route?

Touring poses so many questions :blast

Your only going for one night.... pack clean undies and t shirt and a pair of shorts....oh and your wallet, we will be thirsty. :D

and dont you dare wear that white little leather number, safety before fashion

Im Happy with Medium, been a while since i was one of them :D

gotta give it to the welsh wizzard he loves a corner, i wish he was that quick to the bar :augie

Can't believe you have said that and after I paid for you to park your bike inside for 3 nights.:augie

Anyway, cheers guys. Great trip, good company and superb roads.

Big thankyou to tour meister Wapping for his routes, it's just a shame that he passed duties over to his incompetant assistant on Sunday:thumb2 but I suppose we made the best of it.

I will try and get the photos on soon.

David.

Dirt

I have quite a bit of unedited video that I could post up:

1. Tom being all shy during on Saturday night
2. The weather!
3. The tattoo on Lloyd'ys back (taken on Sunday night) on display - not one for the general viewing GSUK subscriber - so may publish privately.
4. Quite a bit of talk about the "lady garden" and how not to use it in polite conversation..:augie

Richard - thanks for setting up such a nice group and for planning the routes.

Thanks All

Thanks to everyone who attended the trip and made it such a great time and for putting up with my constant pi$$ taking.

We dealt with the heat, wasps, unplanned rides :D, storms, drunks, (not us), spaniards, flower pots and did i mention the heat.

Thanks to Richard for once again sorting out a cracking break and for leading the final four on a 100mph dash to Calais.

To Brian for his company on our long drinking session and for not snoring :thumb2

WW for not leading me astray, well apart from making us go drinking to the best places in town after midnight :augie and showing me how to keep the throttle open in real tightening bends :bow OK OK and for you and Richard for paying for everyones bike parking

Tom for a 600 plus miles overnight trip just to have a beer with us and for his lecturing qualities :rob :D

To Dave for keeping a clear head and a sense of realism while all around were floundering and constantly taking the pi$$

and finally to Aqua Ed for proving when even late to biking, your never to old to start touring with other tossers and oh and for not showing the videos :thumb2

lets do it again, im looking forward to the next one already, great company, great roads and a great craic :thumb

PS if you look on Eds video of me on the bend you can see my back wheel stepping out, see i told you so ;)
