Are all Bluetooth intercoms crap over 70mph

Agree with all of the above, I'm about to get some custom-moulded earplugs with in ear speakers, however has anyone found a competent practitioner who can splice a 3.5mm female connector into the latest BMW system 6 Bluetooth headset?

well .....

I have just fitted my Sena SMH10 to both lids at home, and have spent hours walking round the house and garden like the stig testing it out with her indoors. First impressions are that it's a pretty good bit of kit - buttons easy to use and I just love the Iphone siri press of a button thing - bloody amazing :bow

Am I right in thinking that if I pair both lids to my phone, we can both listen to the music on it at the same time??

:thumb2

The F5 works amazingly well just walking round the house (we did that, confirming to any neighbours watching that we are bonkers:D), and works well up to around 70mph, but its once the wind noise between two riders comes into the equation, that the sound drops out.

I'm interested to hear your views after a Giles style hoon with some proper B road speeds.:D:thumb

Hi all,
You guys might like to know that we offer the Sena SMH10 (single or dual) with upgraded Tork Xpros factory fitted and warranted. These will give more volume but also give a much improved sound quality because of the quality and size of the speakers fitted.
Recently tested by webbikeworld in the US (link is on our listings)

Colin, are the Tork Xpros compatible with the Interphone F5?

If Interphone make a clamp that you can plug your own earbuds or speakers into then yes, otherwise it would be a soldering iron job. I know Sena do such a clamp kit but don't believe Interphone do (correct me if I'm wrong).
I'll talk to Tork tonight and see what they say as I believe they sell Interphone too.
In the webbikeworld test they did say the interphone speakers were quite quiet.

Just fitted the Sena smh5 to my Schuberth c3 pro and I have found it to be an excellent bit of kit and the volume is no problem at any speed,I can hear music GPS instructions and phone calls very clearly but I find using the pear drop coloured ear plugs as well improves the experience as you reduce wind noise.
I've found that were a lot of people seem to go wrong and complain about the volume quality is they haven't positioned the earphones correctly and even a small repositioning can make a big difference. It's worth taking a bit of time over this and position one side first while playing some music, then put an earplug in that ear while you position the opposite side.:thumb2
Hope this helps.

I found with both sets of Semas with the earphone socket plate that because of the dumb way the socket sticks out they both ended up getting bashed and working loose, even from just resting the helmet on a surface.

BMW System 6 Bluetooth Helmet

Finally got sorted about a month ago. I found an engineer at work who made me a 3.5mm female connector and cord which connects directly to the BMW PCB in place of the speaker cable.

So, good bye poor BMW speakers in-helmet, hello Ultimate Ear in-ear custom speakers. Goodness, What a revelation! Absolutely perfect audio quality at any speed.

An inline 3.5mm volume adjuster from maplin gives even more control particularly when listening to the much lower level ipod when it's plugged into the bike.

I have spent a bit of money and found out the following:

Ultimate ear in speakers are worth nearly £200 for the fit, audio quality and comfort

I can disassemble, re-assemble and test a BMW system 6 bluetooth helmet in well under and hour.

I need to spend a winter commuting with it before I give it final approval but so far so good

Surely you are all not exceeding the speed limits and taking calls etc! You might get labelled reckless soon! Ps i have no mire issues on the autocom. Of course i ride spirited less

I have the Sena SMH10r headsets for me and SWMBO. i tried them with the (high quality) speakers in the kit and had no trouble hearing music and/or satnav instructions at 130+ kph. However, I do prefer using earbuds/monitors, so I bought the recently available Sena adaptor cable. The connections, to the headset is actually made inside the helmet as the adaptor cable connects to the speaker connector on the wiring loom. So it is safely tuckked away from any risk of water ingress. The cable to connect your earbuds hangs down from the helmet and has a good pig's tail on it so that connecting/disconnecting the earbuds can be done pre or post helmet putting-on/removal. It's a good bit on kit: both the SMH10r and the earbud connector cable

Which reasonably priced ear monitors that have good noise isolation would people recommend ?

I had some good Duocom moulded ear canal ones, but then one stopped working and the company that I got them from 6 years earlier were unwilling to repair them. So I reverted to using the earphones from a Sony Ericsson MW600 bluetooth headset as a stopgap and find them comfortable and a good compromise. So I have stuck with them

I suppose that I should add that I use a Shoei xr1100 full face helmet which, in my opinion is not a quiet helmet. I would not do more that 10 miles without something in my ears!!

Sena SMH10

Have to say I have been very impressed with the sena smh10 and had a wired autocom before, and the caberg just speak that died in 3 days of rain in Spain/morocco.

The upgrade has increased the speaker volume immensely not that it needed it before.

And yes even at autobahn cruising speed you can chat to the pillion, so 80 mph is a doddle though I ride the rt now

Be careful in the rain because a mate and I had both units fail during a rainy trip to Scotland.

Water had got inside to the extent that you could shake it out. The usb port cover is a weak design feature and nowhere in the blurb does it state that these are waterproof to IP standards.

Just my/our observations. Apart from failing in the rain, they were very good.

I havn't read all the pages on here so forgive me if someone has beaten me to it ....2 months ago I purchased the System 6 helmet and BMW comms system ... all in with the Nav. Can't compare it to other stuff as this is my first adventure with Bluetooth comms, music etc but I have to say it has been used a lot and the quality is fantastic. With or without earplugs everything is crystal clear and a few incoming calls at 70+ on the M23 come in and dull the music so you can answer ... the caller tells me he would never have known I was on the move at speed and he too is very very clear. Yes its lots of money but I took the interest free option and very pleased I did. :thumb2

Short answer-yes. Long answer yes, but not just due to volume issues. They are not as versatile as wired systems such as Autocom etc. They tend to be fiddly to set up and are usually not able to connect to as many inputs, other helmet, radio, satnav, PMR.

No, I disagree with all of what you say. I had a wired Autocom before getting a Sena SMH10R and the Aurtocom was a pain in the neck: with all the plugs and wires hanging around.

Absolutely no volume or noise issues with my Sena and I wish I had bought them ages ago. And my wife cn finally hear me when she is a pillion, something that was nigh on impossibe with the Autocom above about 30mph.

Set-up of the Sena headsets was simple btw

But each to their own.

I can only go by my own experience. I have gone back to my starcom digital to get better clarity and volume, also I could not get PMR radio to work with the Bluetooth system as they are not Bluetooth radios.

I've got the sena smh10's setup for intercom and they really are incredible.

I would say up to 80mph there good, used in heavy downpours and still worked despite getting wet on the contacts.

The battery lasts us for 8 hours of continuous use.
