Are any dealers offering a discount?

Hi

Contacted Bahnstormer, my local dealer today about buying a new 1250GSA Ralleye TE.

With the three black boxes and a nav 6, I was quoted £20,173. When I asked I was told a £250 discount was possible.

My five year old TE with 25K miles is worth around £9K.

There are no deals to be done, unlike in the car world.

Anyone had any better figures at other dealers?

Yes there are deals to be had, but I'm not at liberty to discuss what I was offered on one. ;)

Go and visit some dealers in person and thrash it out.
 
There are deals to be done, I got a good deal on my RT, but to me, it was the to change price that mattered, figures were moved between part ex and discount to achieve what I was looking for. I would try a different dealer and then bargain with the best offer.

I paid £10k 2.5 years ago for a 3 yr old 13k mile TE with full luggage, aux spots, quick shift.

High part-ex is reducing any discount...?

As always, the question in reality is, what is the cost to change?
 
Brother and I are in the market for GSA 1250 TE Rallye’s, went for a test ride and asked about a deal on 2 bikes, no PX, cash buyers, but didn’t sound too promising on a deal, but to be fair to the dealer, they are supposed to be letting us know on Wednesday. If its not too good, we will try other dealers.

Nutty, I know you don’t want to divulge the particular deal, but are you prepared to pm the dealer name?

You need to go to the dealership not phone. Make an appointment on a weekday when they are quieter and they have time to get a price for your bike from trade underwriters as it is probably older than they keep themselves.

Then go to another dealer, see what is offered, if not as attractive as Bahnstormer's deal then divulge the details and see if they move.

Your last few hundred quid will not be cash but a jacket, helmet or free first service.

If they beat Bahnstormer by a significant margin then decide if you want to give Bahnstormer another chance. Walk away and the deal might evaporate, especially if the salesperson is working towards an end of month bonus and you procrastinate then go past the cut off date (which might not be the last day of the month). Perhaps get on the phone to Bahnstormer but you risk being told to go do one.

Also think about the value of the dealer relationship. To me, it's worth a couple of hundred quid to support my local dealer as that will likely be repaid in kind if you need an extended test ride, a service or repair in a hurry or ask for a discount on future purchases of accessories, parts and clothing.
 
The car market is different if I read it correctly, most dealers make not much on the individual sale, but get good kick backs from the manufacturer if they shift plenty in volume sales.

The bike market is still profit per bike??

Deals are subjective, pay a price you are happy with to get a service you are happy with. Don’t think cheapest is best.

I probably didn’t get the best deal but got one I was happy with. Coopers Sunderland have always been good to me.

It was Bahnstormer! But I didn’t have a PX.

As pointed out, the only figure that matters is the cash difference.

I'll try BMW park lane and see what their alledged discount for emergency service/armed forces gives.

I believe so. It definitely extends to retired police. Its model dependant, but they say up to 20% of list price. Although I would hazard a guess that will be on some unloved shitty 2 series rather than something you'd actually want.

The scheme is shite, I’ve ran a couple of quotes and it’s about the same discount as a half decent haggle would get you anyway

I got £9k for my July ‘16 old GSA TE with 23k on the clock last week as a trade in...

The other bike buyers online weren’t close. Reasonable discount as well. North Oxford, Simon off on baby duties currently but Laurent (business Mngr) is around.

Were you happy with £9k for a bike a little over 2.5 - 2.75 years old ?
 
I only paid £14.5k for it new and, as its pointed out on a couple of posts, I think the discount I got reflected an increased offer on the bike tbh. It needed new front pads and disks within a couple of thousand miles and a 24k service....so I factored that in. I use my bike all year round and whilst its 'AllYearBiker'd with AC50 a couple of times a year, it wasnt in 'mint' condition.
